Gerry
Hello Folks!I have had to uninstall and then re-install AVG 7.5.At present I am in the process of updating. The download file is32711.9kb. What amazes me is that, after more than two hours, it has downloaded100% of the file, but it has exceeded that and is now adding time to the"time left", which is increasing all the time. At present it is already twentyminutes in excess but still adding. It seems to be downloading in reversenow. It has already downloaded more 5 000kb in excess of the file size.My problem is that I just don't know how far it will go. There is nothingto indicate what the maximum could be when it will be completed. I don'twant to cancel and lose more than two hours' downloading. Can anyone advise me on this? Thanks! sultan_emerr
I use the free = Avast = 4 Home Edition - Free antivirus software - free virus protection for home PC: - full-featured antivirus package designed for home usage.(FREE), both the free and paid versions are Vista-compatible. = http://www.avast.comAn important thing to keep in mind, regardless of which anti-virus, anti-malware, anti-spyware and firewall you use - ( http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/default.mspx ) is to keep it UPDATED, just as it is important to make sure you have all windows critical and security updates + http://update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/...t.aspx?ln=en-usNote: The way I have mine set is to only notify me that updates are availiable, but to not download them automaticaly. Then I can check to be sure I get just the ones I want. I then click on "custom", and after the updates have been downloaded I look them over to see which ones I want, then disconnect from the net, disable firewall and anti-virus program, and then install the updates, and then re-enable the firewall and anti-virus programs before reconnecting to the net. = http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306525http://www.dailyrotation.com Calendar Of Updates= http://www.dozleng.com/updates/index.php?act=calendar
jimras
Well FWIW.. I agree with you about the automatic updates. I have mine also set to notify but not download. I recently upgraded a lot of stuff in my comp and did a clean install of XP Pro and updated at that timeto SP3 and all went fine. Since that time, which was mid June, I have only seen TWO updates and those were themicrosoft anti-spyware checker. There haven't been any other updates since.
Gerry
Thanks for the advice!. It is much appreciated. After a second un-install and re-install of AVG the problem disappeared.I have never exp this type of problem before with this program.I have been using Firefox now for a long time (in fact, I have disabled Exploreron my PC). Is it still necessary to keep Windows updated?Looking forward to your advice!
flashh4
Howdy Gerry,Is it still necessary to keep Windows updated?Sadly to say but "YES" you still need wimdows to get updates and something other than FF3 to get email.Chuck
garmanma
I have had to uninstall and then re-install AVG 7.5.You realize version 7.5 isn't supported or updated anymore? You have to upgrade to version 8.0http://www.lockergnome.com/blade/2008/05/0...by-may-31-2008/
