sshep99
I had a situation happen where I had to use my recovery disk to get my computer working properly again. I think it had a virus. After using it, I wasn't able to use anything from MS Office. When I tried to open Word, Publisher, or Power Point, I got the message it wasn't a working shortcut. I tried to reinstall Office, but couldn't. I googled how to uninstall MS Office and followed the instructions and that didn't work either. I installed two different programs to try to uninstall it, they couldn't find it.I went to My Computer, C drive, programs, MSOffice and all the files are there. What's the trick to uninstalling Office, it's almost like its a virus that won't be uninstalled ... HELP

sshep99
I already tried to uninstall from the add/remove program. Office isn't an option there for me to remove it.The message I get if I click on word or publisher is.... This action is only valid for products that are currently installed. It IS installed, and I can't get rid of it. I've never uninstalled anything from the safe mode.Is there something special I have to do? I don't know how to do it from the registry. This is the craziest thing I've ever had to deal with...other then trying to uninstall symantic once.

TheTerrorist_75
You need to contact the manufacturer of your PC. Your Office install is a trial version offered by a proprietary PC maker.
Pete_C
It sounds like you have a version where it requires you to uninstall using the install cd. This is part of the product activation , or whatever they want to call their controls to prevent people from installing and then selling the cd and product key.You pop in the original installation cd and it will detect the installed version and ask you what you want to do;add a componentrepair your current installationRemove or uninstall the current installation.Just follow the prompts.Or in some cases you have to actually begin the installation and then it detects the installed version and tells you it must remove it to proceed. You let it remove it and then when it gets ready to install you cancel the installation.
