Well, i keep going on my Windows 98 at night (despite the fact im supposed to be asleep) and ill open up minesweeper, solitaire, CD player, etc (basically any program will trigger the following problem) And then it gores that blue scren where it says there was an error, and to push any key to continue, or you can push alt-ctrl-del to restart computer. So i push a key, it pops up blue again, push a key, its the desktop. I open another/same program hoping it'll work this time, and the same thing happens.

How can i make this stop, and to run normally?

Would it work if i re-install Win 98 and wipe the comp clean? (i was going to do it a while back, but changed my mind since i

stopped using it for a while, but im using a lot now...............well............ trying........)

If theres something i need to buy, how much might it cost/how can i find the right one?

Thanks In Advance

-Joe

P.S. I know Win 98 is old, but i figured you all might remember something, or it could be a problem also that can happen with xp, vista, etc.

Have you done the scan disk and defrag thing recently... malware scans ? cleaned out your cache? Too many startup programs ?

Wiping the computer is best if you have backups of all your data. Otherwise try the above AND begin getting your data backed up soonest.

are you playing on line games

you may have malware or even a virus

do you get your games from share programs

like the others a clean install seems the best option

well, frankly i dont hav internet on the computer in my room (the Win 98). My mom wants the computer with interent in an area with mroe "traffic", just to make sure. So i dont think it has virus etc.

Ive tryed to defrag, but it always stops for some reason. i left it on, defraging when i went to dads house once, and came back, it was still on 0%. I dont know whats going on with it.

Ill get what the error says up soon, getting reaqdy for school so gotta wait a bit.

Thanks again

EDIT:

OK, i ran my computer while getting dressed, and this is the error it showed:

A fatal exception OE has occurred at 0028:C0030964. The current application will be terminated.

Then it says to push a key to continue, aor ctrl-alt-del to restart comp.

It could be a lot of things. The main one for 95-98 is bad memory A fresh install is probably best. To defrag with 95-98 it was usually recommended to do it in safemode with the screensaver set to off

I had defrag problems with the Possessed Gateway and yes, try it in safemode first.

If that doesn't work, turn off your virus scanner if you have one on that machine.

If THOSE two methods don't work, control/alt/delete to open the task manager. End everything EXCEPT explorer and systems, then try it. Restart afterwards to turn everything back on in the task manager

(number 3 was the only method that worked for me, but try it last)

To Terrorist:

No, thats all it says on it. Excpet "windows" at the very top

To Mark:

Ok, ill probably just re-install Win 98 then..........it dont matter, nothing important on it...................

To Liz:

About #3, ive tryed to end all the programs on task manager except explorer, but a lot of the things wouldnt end. Id push end, task manager close and its still there...............

To Everyone Helping Me:

Thanks a lot! Ill just do a complete re-installation of Win 98 on my comp. IF, for some odd reason, its still not working, then............................idk. but im sure it'll be fine. Thanks Again!
