Disk Managment Fat32 Not Available To Format

Recommended Posts

I needed to format a hardrive fat32, I have been using a bootable 98se startup cdrom. It dawned on me, why not just use the disk management tool in XP. When you use the format wizard, it gives you the drop down menu to choose what file system, I only am giving the option to use ntfs. I was under the impression FAT32 should be an option, but is missing.

This article says it fat32 should be an option

I know what the problem was. The drive was 40gbs, since it was larger then 32gbs, XP only allows you to partition with ntfs. The 98se format command does not care what size you want to use.

I use this WinME bootdisk to format large drives FAT32. It makes it nice on storage drives that you wish to share with different OSes.

I use this WinME bootdisk from Radifed. Just format a floppy then install this to it (self-extracting).

I found this site below with premade isos of all ms boot floppys. They boot from the cd, but give you an "A" prompt just like the floppy.

here is the ME boot cd
