  1. The second amendment and the NRA will continue to guarantee that people have the right to own guns; that will unlikely change. Perhaps it may be an idea to take a different approach. That is, I think it can be reasonably argued that more resources need to be devoted to wellness and mental health. Specifically people who are mentally ill need to be treated and proper screening practices need to be put in place to support and identify people at risk. Too often mentally ill people are pushed aside by society.

  2. I have never watched G4 TV, but i have enjoyed doing Malware (Hjt logs) cleaning over there. Some 6 yrs i have done them & proud that i got many compliments. It takes a lot of time to stay up on the latest tools/programs used in the cleaning but i have accomplished that. Now i don't know where i will wind up but i have always came back here, over the years to just see how everyone is doing. I will continue helping with Malware infections somewhere. So to all my friends, this is a great place to hang your hat where Jeff (BestTechie) and staff have always welcomed people here.

    Hi Chuck,

Good to see you again, man!

  3. Given that Esquire has registered such domains as EsquireTV.com and EsquireChannel.com it is likely that the existing G4TV.com will cease to exist.

It is highly unlikely that they will keep the domain up or pay for the servers to keep running. It iis not like the merger with TechTV where they are preserving some of what was there and trying to keep the viewers; they are buying the channel space and bringing in a "fresh new concept" They notified the staff that the remaining G4TV shows (AOTS, XPLAY...) are canceled and they are terminated at the end of the year. Some (Kevin P, Brian Sessler) left before the public announcement, the remaining cast makes it clear that they know their jobs are over and that no one is likely to fire them early (two incidents of guests getting naked while being interviewed on AOTS last week and the camera guy just blurring it a bit rather than cutting or bleeping).

So my bet is that by Jan 01 we will go to click on forums.g4tv.com and find "server unavailable" and that will be that.

It is unlikely that they will bother preserving any of the archived stuff or old videos of The Screen Savers and Call For Help or any other content.

It is just not what they are all about.

Likewise, I doubt they will have forums, from their site it appears to be more social media (facebook and twitter) that they use to interact and that forums are a thing of the past.

    Hey Pete_C,

Saw your post today at G4. Many thanks for the invitation to G4 members. It would be great to see G4 members heading here! :-)

  4. On the G4 forums they said today that G4 is being sold to Esquire.

The network will probably be rebranded. AOTS and XPlay already canceled at the end of the month.

Probably the forums will go too.

It has been a long run.

Thanks for the heads-up, Pete_C. Is there any indication that the forums will be taken down? Just curious.

  5. Why should you try out Linux?

Linux is a Unix-like operating system that has been around for a little over twenty years. Linux was invented by a Finnish programmer named Linus Torvalds in 1991. Many big iron servers like Google run on Linux. Years ago Linux had the reputation of being difficult to use, today that is not the case. There are several versions of Linux like Ubuntu, OpenSUSE, and Fedora that are fun and easy to use. Linux is very secure and robust and has the advantage of being immune to the virus and malware infections that plague Windows based systems! Also, Linux is free open source software that can be installed on several PCs without fear of copy write violations. Free is a good thing.

If you are curious about giving Linux a try you can try one of several Live versions of Linux that are available. For example, you can download and burn an OpenSUSE live CD and run it on your windows system. That is, you can boot your PC from the CD, give Linux a try without changing anything on your Windows installation. If you find that you like Linux You can use the Live CD to install Linux and set-up a dual boot so that you can choose to run either Windows or Linux at system start-up.

Here are some links to Linux websites if you would like to give this amazing operating system a try.

    OpenSUSE

    Ubuntu

    Fedora and Red Hat

  6. Hey guys,

I've been thinking about trying out Linux and I was wondering what's the best distro to start with? Obviously, I'm still a newbie/beginner and I just want to test the waters. Any information you can provide would be great!

Also, I'm thinking about installing the Linux distro in a virtual machine for starters. Is that a good idea?

    Greetings,

I've been running Linux for a little over 10 years. There are several very good versions of Linux out there that are perfect for someone just starting out in Linux. I would recommend Ubuntu and OpenSUSE. Both of these distros are easy and intuitive to use. They will allow you to test your hardware and check to see if Linux will run on your PC (live CDS). Also they will guide you through setting up a dual boot system (Windows/Linux) if you want to keep your Windows stuff.

  7. I'm back again. My life has been very crazy the last 6 months. My Mother died back in May and my wife has started a new job (she's on probation). Good to be back again. I'll help out in any way I can. Good to see you all again! :)
