The new cable didn't work. I tried a third but the same thing keeps happening. I hooked up an old CRT monitor and waiting to see it does anything. If it is the on-board video messing up, would installing a video card help?

It's an Acer 19" LCD. I replaced the monitor cable and everything seems ok for now. I'll let you know if any further problems come up Thank you for your help

The speakers are separate from the monitor. They are logitech speakers

I'm visiting friends and they put me to work trying to figure out whats wrong with their display. At random the screen will start to flicker and then completely mess up. By moving the monitor it sometimes goes back to normal for a few minutes and then mess up again. I had noticed that the speakers were really close to the monitor and had been for a while. I moved them a safe distance away but the problem still exists. Could that have messed up the monitor? The system is an AMD 4400+ with 2GB of RAM and it's running the MSI mobo with onboard graphics (nvidia 6150). I'm trying to get a hold of a

I would download the HiJack This program and post the log in the Malware section. Let one of the experts see if anything is wrong. Also, have you scanned for spyware?

Cool. I did it without screwing anything up.

Hows this for timing? I just got an Email newsletter from Newegg.com and they are selling NOD32 Anti-Virus (OEM) for $19.99 with free shipping. I just ordered it. The promotional code is - EMC1211SMFT01.

Pretty much all the computers sold at Best Buy have Vista home. I'm not to thrilled about having to teach her Vista (she barely knows XP). I'm starting to think the intel too. Shes got the money. Just out of curiosity, what are the difference between Home and Ultimate?

Like I said in my other post, I'm going with my boss to buy a computer. I'm trying to figure out which one of these two should she get? http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?sk...d=1188559785233 or http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?sk...d=1186008217632 She is going to be using it mainly for office work, email and shopping. No gaming. Thanks

Just an update. WD has sent out a new drive (with the promise I'll send the broken one in). Thumbs up on customer service

Thanks for the info guys. I'll tell you what she ends up getting. I like what I've heard about NOD32 but she keeps asking about Nortons A/V 2008. As far as the system she's getting, I found her a HP with an AMD 5600+ and 3GB of Ram, at Best Buy.

I've read good things about NOD32 and I'm thinking about using it when my Panda A/V is up. But is it easy to use for a noobie?

I'm going with my boss later to day to buy a new desktop computer. Her last PC pretty much died but when I was pulling her data off the hard drive I found a couple of trojans. AVG missed these. I would like to know what A/V or Internet Security Suite I should tell her to install. I know of the good ones but I need one that is very user friendly. She's not very computer literate.

My mistake. There are those times you fill with beer and sports

I finally got everything off of the drive and now I'm going to wipe it clean and see if I can return it to Best Buy (with receipt). If not I'll start a RMA request in with Western Digital. If I don't get anywhere with that, then I'll open up the case and check it out. I'll let you know.

I'm going to see if this works. Also, my system is running sluggish, so I asked my roommate if there were any weird noises coming from the laptop. He said that the HDD would click whenever trying to access data. So, I called Costco and within 10 minutes they had HP on the line to say, that they would send out a new HDD to replace mine. They offered to let me take it to a service center and have them do it (free of charge) or I could do it and send back the old drive. I'm going to do it myself. Over all I was really impressed with Costco's customer service. They didn't pass me off to HP or give

I got it from Best Buy 3 1/2 months ago. Return policy is 30 days. I'm going to have to go through WD

This just isn't my day. First my external HDD is messing up and now my laptop keeps getting the BSOD saying it has to dump the memory. Does this show any problems? Crashed again

Thanks for the quick responses. I turned off the - Enable write caching on the disk, and am able to pull off the data I need. Does this mean my drive isn't dying or do I need to return it to WD for a new one?

Yesterday one of my WD My Book 500GB external HDD crashed or something. When I power it on, everything seems fine until I try and copy anything off the drive. I get a System Tray Pop-up that says "Windows - Delayed Write Failed" It's still under warranty but I'd like to get my stuff off before I return it. Is this possible?
