From my learning experience of netowrk security, I read that Task Scheduler slows down the navigation through the folder. Don't remember the explanation, just that it does. Try disabling task scheduler service.

Any information on gaining access to a computer on the LAN, that would be setup like your non-worried person, that has the essentials of firewalls and what not, but isn't trying to prevent like the FBI from gaining access.

You may need some kind of programming knowledge. What this does is make really simple to really advance scripts fairly easily. I use it all the time for tasks. It has a function you are looking for "WinSetTitle"
If you feel you are up to it, you can give it a try, the forums there are very helpful too if you need the asssitance.

My friend and I are trying to make a Media Center in his room. He has 2 PC's a new one for the latest games, and one that runs windows 98. The one that ones 98 we want to turn into a media center, this is the IDEA, but im not sure how hard some things might be to implement.
for the media Pc we will be purchasing a 200+ Gb HD, so we can rip our DVD collection to the HD + Music. Then we will purchase some video card w/ remote control support.
S-Video cables to hook up to the new 52inch
USB cables to connect the two computers together.
Now my question is...
What would be the best vid card to do this with, i was thinking ATI All in Wonder, my uncle has it and im pretty sure it had the S-video, TV-tuner, and remote control.
Since the 2 computers will be connected via USB, is there a way/a program that will be able to take the current screen from the main computer and send it to the secondary computer then resized so it could be shown on the TV?
Ummm i think that is all. Any links would be appreciative.

Anyone know of some FREE sony vegas tutorials? I keep finding ones where i have to pay.

Well they claim they are 100% spyware free, the big thing is there are some big ads. And most of the reviews i read complained about version 7 and below, i tried version 8. Seemed pretty decent.
I also say people reccomend Get Right in the bad reviews for DA Plus. Maybe i will check that out.

I was looking at download accelerators, particularly Download Accelerator Plus. I downloaded, and installed it, and it works really well. 300% increase in download.
Anyone have any comments about DL accelerators, reccomend any?

I live in a split level, and currently have my modem and router hooked up to 3 computers in the family room right under the bedrooms. Now i am interesting in moving a few of the computers upstairs, but then i would have to drill a hole in the floor, and for cosmetic and other reasons i dont think that will be the best choice, the heat run doesnt go up the wall :-/
So i was wondering how strong the wireless connection would be like 10 feet above where the router would be? Is there gonna be a noticible loss in packets/speed? I'm a heavy gamer, and would rather not lose the slight edge i may have by going wireless.

Well it boots up tje CD, loads in all the drivers, after everything is loaded, it crashes, with the message that i posted above.
A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.SESSION3_INITIALIZATION_FAILED
If this is the first time restart, if not do this:
Check to makes sure any new hardware or software is installed properly. If this is a new installation ask manufacturer for new windows updates.
If problems continue disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable bios memory options such as caching, or shadowing. If you need to use safe mode ...... it tells me how

When i get home, im gonna slave the HDD, and see if i can use XP recovery on that computer, maybe it will work

My HDD is ATA like i thought.
I was up all night trying to find some information on this, and someone said to hook my HDD upto a nother computer w/ windows XP and run CHKDSK on it, so i did, and it causes a stop error on this computer =/
When i run chkdsk, it gets to stage 2 and i get a Stop: 0x0000009C error
Nothing is overclocked, or all that stuff that you will find with your simple google search, somehow the HD fails =/
I wonder if I will be able to just format this thing.....
So now i will need to look into that one.
What else could/should i do to replace any missing files?

What drivers did you remove?
- My ATI chipset drivers
- My Nvidia Graphics drivers
What kind of computer, store bought or did you build it?
built, its been running well for years now
what kind of drives? (ATA or SATA)
ATA i think..... how would i check?
What is your BSOD error? (write down the exact error and post it here)
when i try booting in safe mode it says:
A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. If this is the first time restart, if not do this:
Check for virsus, remove newly installed hard drive or hard drive controllers, check your hard drive to make sure it properly configured. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption.

you dont need a splitter, you can use a dvi to vga converter, it should have come with your video card. Most do come with one.
