  1. Call your local college and ask about courses on A+. The books you will need for those class's have all the info you will need to pass the core and os parts of the test. If you feel you are advanced enough, just the books will do the trick. But you will need to study them to pass. I took the class's because I wanted to and I wanted to be able to also mention it on my resume. The more certs on your resume, the better your chances. I recently got Dell certifiied for desktops and laptops. A company out of town needed some psu's changed and gave me the tests for free just to do the job for them l
  2. Sixpac, tech is one thing where being a "young'un" has an advantage!!!! Liz <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Ha ha, I'm 16 - been working with computers since about third grade, work at a computer store, fix neighbors' computers, fix my own constantly, and I've never needed to know the voltage of a parallel port (random A+ questions!) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Computers where and have been a big part of my life. I am 15 too, My older brother who is 18 is going to collage to work for Microsoft. When him and me where young we where allways facinated about how computers work. When He got into high
  3. Despite what some may say, it is not useless. You have to start somewhere and many entry level jobs do mention it as necessary. But you will need more as time goes on. I passed the os portion and will take the core part soon. There were jobs I could of had if I was fully A+ certified. But they want at least that much to hire you. You won't know it all by any means and you will forget some of it, but from an entry level start it is quite often needed. In case anyone was wondering, I am older and had to change careers do to a work injury. So I know how hard it is to find a job without it. Even
  4. Seems to me that I saw this exact question answered by CC on G4. I may not always like the way CC responds and havn't always agreed with him, but when it comes to networking, you are wasting your time and others looking for second opinions on 2 web sites. He knows more about networking than anyone I've seen in either site. prybar=zammer
  5. If you have done everything in this entire thread and it still doesn't work right, it is junk and time to get rid of it. The only possible thing you can still try is using it at a different home or work. If it still does it, put it in the nearest trash container and buy a new one. Keyboards are generaly cheap and in this case probably not worth this much effort. Especially when a cheap wired job works on your pc.
  6. That works too, if you still can, also get the Microsoft updates for that os. I don't know if you still can or not.
  7. The only reason I did this was that I get tired of people bashing the president. We were having a spirited debate on one post. And It wasn't me who started the debate. I agree on what the focus should be here, but when I see what I saw at the start of the post, I will say something. And that is also why I put out the Clinton photo. I feel the facts our on my side, if he doesn't want to respond anymore that is fine. As I mentioned, this was the only bump I was going to make. I find it interesting that now we should only talk about tech since someone had an opposing view and was willing to expla
  8. I think Bearskin hit it on the head, most pc users from what I've seen, don't know what they are doing. My father also calls it a modem. ME just seems to have more issues than other Windows operating systems. The professors I had hated it and said it was the worst. I don't know if I would go that far since memory issues really didn't get resolved till XP came out. But anyway, besides doing all the scans for virus and malware problems, do a scandisk and defrag in that order. Adaware, A Squared (A2), Spybot, IE Spyad, and Winpatrol all do a fine job of cleaning up your pc and keeping it that
  9. You know given how you spelled A2 Squared I wouldn't talk. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yeah I type in the dark and occasionally miss my typos. Thanks for pointing it out. Now I'm going to go invade somebody that's totally irrelevant. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> If we are killing terrorist, it is never irrelevant. Personally I like my picture better <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I don't know where you get your news, but as far as Iraq is concerned,it seems to be the terrorists who are doing the killing. 1870 American soldiers dead at last count. All we seem to be doing is making them mad. Anyway
  10. Are you sure this keyboard is compatible with XP SP2? If I remember correctly you can go to Microsofts HCL site and verify that the keyboard is OK to use. Have you tried it on another pc? If a cheap keyboard works fine, then something is up with the wireless. If it does it on another pc, it must have something wrong with it.
  11. I believe Marshall and JS detailed it pretty good, assuming you know how to do the things they mentioned. Also are you running any soft firewalls, even the built in one from Microsoft XP, which is turned on by default? Sometimes firewalls get in the way and need to be off when first setting up. Then once your connected, turn them back on.
  12. Have you another keyboard to try? Just to see if the problem goes away. If it does, I'd be looking sideways a little at that wireless one.
  13. This is a guess as I never have had a wireless keyboard. Check for updated drivers and be sure your batterys are not getting weak. I don't know what else it could be.
  14. The others may be right, but I would still try updating the driver online. You might be surprized at the results. XP didn't have the proper drivers for my keyboard, so the bottons on top of mine didn't work either. I googled the keyboard and got the drivers and now it works fully. It is worth a shot as it won't cost you ANYTHING!

  19. I think those army pop ups are only on IE. I don't get them on Mozilla.
  20. As long as you have internet access, Do the online scan from Trend. I had Pest Patrol and I personally think that it wasn't any better than the free programs. Adaware, Spybot, A2 squared, and Win Patrol are on every pc or laptop I own or work on. I also recommend IE Spyad. I vitually never have problems on a pc or laptop using this combo. Along with a good anti virus and soft firewall. The problem you had is typical of a system that was left wide open for attack. Once you get all this stuff cleaned up and in working order, I would also go to the Microsoft Windows update and get all the updates
  21. If you still have internet access try running an online virus scan from Trend. If that finds nothing do a chkdsk and defrag. If your still having problems, download Hijack This and post it in the correct forum and the pro's can see if there is something else bugging your system. Worse comes to worse try system restore, or try to repair the OS with the OS CD. Assuming it is XP.
  22. No virus is safe to live with. Once it hovers in memory, it will infect any program it can that is also loaded into memory. I would do all the recomendations given but I would also run an online scan from Trend. The reason being that no anti-virus is perfect and there could be some other nasty's in your system. I would also get some free programs like adaware and spybot going to see what they find as well. If you think there still is a problem, get Hijack this loaded and post it here for a pro to look it over and determine if you still have problems. Make note of the Hijack This log in the tit
  23. Well if all else fails, swap cards if you can. Or put a cheap pci card in. Just to see if it makes a difference. You would probably have to make a bios adjustment for the pci trial. You already did the other things that I would of tried.
  24. Personally I have an old Gateway laptop and it has a 10 gig hdd split with 98 SE and XP PRO. It works great on only 160 MB's of ram. It has a Celeron 400 Mhz CPU. I have played DVD's on it on the 98 side because the DVD player it has doesn't have XP drivers. But it works fine other wise. I even play party poker on it all the time. No problems placing my fake bets. So I agree that if the pc is properly maintained, that XP doesn't have to be a drag.
  25. On a further update, I've got the clone of the bigger storage drive working just by changing the drive letter from within Windows. Now all the music and programs stored there are working fine and all seen by C drive. But I still am not sure how to clone the system drive C: as it seems to clone it perfectly but shows as D: in My Computer. Does anybody have experience with this. Can I just change the D to a C and C to something else. Then shutdown and make the hdd the master and take out the other? Would it boot then or is there another way that is safer?
