I have the side off and it's in the 60's in the house. So it's not over heating. I have active monitor and it shows all the temps in the green. All the fans are working. I'm not getting a blue screen just a reboot at random without warning. I'll do a search and see if there is a .dmp file. I have the mirosoft memory test I can check it with that. I will get back to you. Update.... I've discovered went I tried to run a memory test that the floppy drive isn't working. I'm surprise windows didn't say anything. The light isn't flashing and when I put a disk in I get a message to insert disk i -

spirittoo replied to spirittoo's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
Well it's not the power supply. I replaced it with a new one I had and the problem continues. It reboots without warning after a few mintues. I've run AVG and found no virus. I've check the windows updates and nothing new. I've run ad aware and remove what it found. I've run spy bot and it found nothing. I've updated spyblaster ..... Does anyone have any idea what is happening? -

Just as I was replying to your post the system rebooted without warning. Is this the sign of a bad power supply? I have a cheap one, I can use but what would be a good supply that doesn't cost alot if it is the psu? -

spirittoo replied to spirittoo's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
I found the answer. I googled part of the message I got and found forums talking about the problem. The solution was to go into internet options into the security tab and click on trusted sites then uncheck the box and enter the address for excite ... http://mail.excite.com .... and http://registration.excite.com ... problem solved. -
I have IE 6.0 I just used spy-bot and cleared out the cookies from excite forgetting that I had this problem before I formatted the drive. I also have Netscape and I have no problems signing on there. After clearing out the cookies I get a message from excite. .... "The browser you're using is not allowing you to sign in to Excite. Right now, your browser's settings are configured to disable cookies and/or javascript. My friend is trying to burn a DVD. He has some videos that he wants to put on a disk. When we fire up Nero and tried to put it in the area to copy we get this message: "The following files may not reside in the VIDEO_TS directory of a DVD-VIDEO compilation: Out of Athens-Part2 MPG Only compliant DVD-VIDEOfiles (VIDEO-TS.IFO', 'VIDEO_'VTS_ ....) can be added to the VIDEO_TS folder. Please add files from a completed DVD-VIDEO title or use a authoring software like Nero Vision Express to create DVD-VIDEO files from standard video files as *avi and *mpg." What does this mean? Do I need another

Compaq Presario Experts How Do You Open Front?
spirittoo replied to spirittoo's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
This thread will be gold for anyone with the machine ..... Just finish chatting with compaq tech. According to him the mobo will not accept a higher watt supply, but it will handle all the extra componets I am adding on. I thought the machine p/s would need at least 350 watts but the tech sadi no, so there you are. Solution to problem .... buy replacement ... do upgrades .... see what happens. Thanks for your time. -
Compaq Presario Experts How Do You Open Front?
spirittoo replied to spirittoo's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
Yes it is the 5330US ..... the original p/s was 250Watts. I didn't know that about the mobo. But what about the part the machine is running accorrding to the power caculator his machine needs over 345 watts to run what he wants. Are you saying I should replace it with the same p/s? What about the power requirement to run the system? My friend wants a dvd burn added a second hhd, and more memory. Is 250 watts going to be able to handle that? I see now that I got the number mixed up. The site has 5303 not 30 ..... my mistake so disreguard the above link. Anyway I can find out if the mobo -

Okay I need to know if this power supply will fit in the compaq. It says it will fit on the site, but the measurements are not right. The PS I want to replace was 3-13/16"X5-1/8"X6". Am I missing something? -

spirittoo replied to spirittoo's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
also as stated before, soemtimes the mobo drivers need the chasis. if the mobo is riveted to the chasis, then it is integrated electrically to the chasis, which means your hard drive may not work in the new case requireing you to wipe the harddrive and start fresh sometimes the mobo and chasis are integrated into the BIOS system, to prevent stolen computers from being parted out and used in other computers. Oh my I didn't know that. Well that does it. I can't use this case. I have no choice but to order a micro atx ps and hope it will be enough power to run the new stuff. Thank you for y -

not sure if you would have to flash the bios for a new 80gig hdd or not. there is a possibility that there is a screw on the riveted side of the case. see below for more info on that, or they have those lovely little plastic holding brackets in place, which means you have to locate how they are placed in order to remove the mobo. they drill out the rivets so they can access the left side. this way they can remove the mobo, replace it, then they put new rivets in place. which brings us to the fine print in the warranty section of their computers stating that you may get a refurbished compute -

That's what I don't want ..... would I have to flash the bios if I got another 80 gb hhd? New problem. The new case has arrived and I have started to take out the mobo from the 5330. The problem .... the mobo won't come out! I've taken out all the screws. I found one under the clamp that hold the heat sink and fan on the cpu. I remove that, but it still won't come out. The bottom and the right side of the board is free, but something is holding the board near the cpu toward the top of the board and where the I/O stuff is in the back. I tried to see if I could slide the board away from -

Still wondering about adding a 100 gb hhd as a slave drive. The 5330US has an 80 gig drive now. I just would like to make sure the mobo will see the 100 gb drive without having to update the bios. Can anyone help me with this?
