  1. My laptop heats up quickly, and I dont hear the CPU fan going

So my conclusion is the fan gave out (Plus seconds before going out, I heard clicking coming from the CPU area and then the fan noise went away)

    satellite l25 s1193 <-- Laptop Model

I am not familiar with the MOBO or anything with the laptop, and I am trying to find out the specs so I know what to buy for it.

Either way, since I have to replace the FAN i may as well replace the CPU since it is a CELERON. So I am asking for your recommendations on a

CPU and might as well upgrade from the 512MB RAM

    CPU

    RAM

  2. It gives me the "windows is logging off" & at time "Windows is shutting down"

    Thanks a million

  3. Are there any FREE good quality ones out there?

Trying to edit some songs for our "walk up" cd for the baseball team

    'Jose

Been so long, new computer, all my bookmarks with the "good" sites are no more :(

What's the difference between a Music Editor and an Audio Editor?

    nothing

    and thanks

  4. Well guys, it's the SEASON (baseball)...

So My friend will have access to this account, however I will start this for him as I have

ESSAYS to write, Books to read, Events to volunteer @, as well as After school practices and lifts to get in...

"My computer screen wont turn on"

What kind of computer is it?

"Microsoft, it's one of those where the monitor and hardrive are together"

The only thing I could think of (besides "The Penal Colony") was to ask

*Do you hear any beeps, if so... How many, and How long do they last*

I really need to get back into being a computer nerd O.o

Maybe it's just me but I'm having a little trouble understanding some of your post. Do you have a spare monitor to try? How old is this pc? What do you mean by the monitor and hard drive are together? Do you mean a monitor sitting on top of a desktop pc?

seems as though he has yet to make an apperance..

I will try to make a pit-stop tomorrow morning before my volunteer event, or after my appointment to see exactly what he is talking about.

  6. Tried a hard-reset ? It's conceivable you've accidentally fubared the configuration to an unworkable state.

How are you getting an IP address? DHCP? If you're DHCP'ing it, do you actually get an IP from the router? If you do, can you ping the router? Can you ping 72.14.207.99 (google.com)? You need to do a bit of troubleshooting to try and find where the issue lies.

(note: use 'ping -d 72.14.207.99' to cut out the name resolution)

If you can ping 72.14.207.99 but not 'google.com', your issue lies with the DNS servers you're getting via DHCP. Rather than ask your ISP for theirs, use openDNS - 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220.

We'll since im connected via router "George" (my friends) I will attempt what you have asked later this evening and post as soon as I do.

    Thanks

    'Jose

    "Del Rio" = Mine

    "George" = Friends

"Del Rio" --> Connects to Network --> I go to Windows Key + R --> Type cmd --> Shows everything OK (From DHCP enabled, to IP ADDRESS, ECT.)

    "George" --> Everything works fine

  7. I have a DI-624 model router

The router broadcast and I am able to connect to the network; however I cannot seem to get connected to the internet via my laptop or any other of the 4 laptops i've tried.

I resetted the darn thing, and it still wont work at the default settings.

I am currently using a friends (of which is the exact same model) and I am able to connect fine. However when my router is plugged in the desktop wont even work.

I am downloading the firmware to update the darn thing (took me forever to remember "firmware", I kept telling myself i need to try the BLANKware)

Either way, if the firmware doesnt work.. any ideas? *Now i get to go switch back to my router with no connection :(

    UPDATE

    Firmware updated

    Nothing :(

Even had to switch to my friends router to get online via my desktop.. the "hardline"

  8. Maybe just windows being windows???

I accidentally clicked the wireless button my laptop and so i got disconnected. I attempted to reconnect only to get the message "Not connected".. However I am online right now

The "FREE X" is FREE XBOX 360.. pop up..so calm down

Picture attached... any ideas guys? Just a glitch...

Just curious if this has happened to anyone

    post-683-1163368821_thumb.jpg

  9. I have been getting alot of "Can't find server" with the basic typo error being the possible reason; however I checked downstairs and I have no problem down there (the issue is on my laptop)

Starting to act up on my neighbors connection aswell

  10. A new Trojan horse making the rounds has been installing itself as a Firefox extension, according to security company McAfee.

The FormSpy Trojan attacks computers that have already been infected with the Downloader-AXM Trojan, according to a security advisory McAfee issued Tuesday. Once FormSpy is executed, it installs itself as a component of the Firefox Web browser.

The FormSpy spyware then gleans sensitive information, such as credit card and bank account numbers, from the user's browser and forwards it to a malicious Web site. But this Trojan is capable of other tricks, as well, McAfee noted.

The main executable is also capable of sniffing passwords from traffic for ICQ (the "I seek you" program that alerts users to the presence of acquaintances online), FTP (file transfer protocol), IMAP (Internet message access protocol, an e-mail management program) and POP3 (post office protocol, a data format for e-mail), McAfee warned.

Although the FormSpy Trojan is circulating, it is considered a low risk, McAfee said. What's more, people may have already taken steps to mitigate the earlier Downloader-AXM Trojan that is needed for the FormSpy Trojan to take hold.

  14. any reason why my isp would block this site?

that question you should ask your ISP.....

called and they "dont filter for any reason"

talked to the server admin again, and he said its a DNS issue (since i have zero knowledge in networking i am like YAAAAAAAAA)

well he had me MANUALLY enter a DNS #, instead of it getting one automatically and the site works now.

I am still reading up on my tech stuff, but after this i think im going to shift a little more time into network reading
