How to set or change registry editing permissions in Windows XP i am not able to change any settings in the registry. i can not edit any registry keys.how can i do it. please help .

My computer Operating System is Windows XP, but this may not be relevant. when using Outlook Express for emailing, a window appears asking if you would like to free up disk space by "Compacting Messages" I always click cancel. Today, my small brother was using the computer and clicked yes. For reasons I cannot understand, a large amount of messages have now been removed from my Sent Folder so please help me where these deleted mails stored in the hard disk.

sound in your hard disk may be the spinning sound than it is ok . if the sound comes from the hard disk is bad or something like the grinding than the hard disk failure . so to keep this one. backed up the whole data so that the data will not loss after failure of the hard disk. contact the computer repair shop to check the hard disk.

restart the laptop press the dell key to go to the bios setup. you can use any keys to go to the bios setup. disable the floppy drive option and make the CD ROM as the first boot device and hard disk as the second boot device . click save and quit. restart the laptop. put the bootable disk into the CD ROM. press any key to continue the setup . windows will installed only follow the disk instructions.
