  2. I keep getting a pop up that I have a trojan horse. NaviPromo.N. I cannot "heal" it or do anything with it. I even tried deleting the file it was attached to (nse25C.dll). It still keeps popping up, please tell me what to do!

    Thanks

  3. Hi,

Competent using computers to the most basic of levels, but rapidly spiralling down a road to doom, so would be ever so grateful for some expert help.

Lack of specific information is for a reason - please read to end before raising questions!

Noticed AVG wasn't running yesterday, so went to click on icon and got a message along the lines of "invalid.exe file". Uninstalled AVG and tried to reinstall, but kepy getting the same message. copied and pasted the message into google, and it linked the message with a trojan horse, and mentioned the name "downloader.generic7".

I followed the AVG guidance and downloaded Cwshredder, spybot s&d, ad-aware, rogue remover, avg anti spyware and anti virus. I was going to install them in safe mode in case the presence of a virus affected their installation.

When I tried to start in safe mode (via F8 ), the computer kept resetting and going to the "We apologise for the inconvenience, but windows did not start successfully…" screen. I started in normal mode, went to msconfig, and selected safe mode. Now, the computer will not start in any of "Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Networking, Safe Mode with Command Prompt, Last known good Configuration, or Start Normally". Keeps resetting, and going to the "We apologise for the inconvenience, but windows did not start successfully…" screen. F8 brings up a wider range of options, but I wouldn't have a clue where to start.

So, I'm sort of completely stuck, and I can't access the information asked to post, because I can't even boot my PC. What I CAN tell you is that I'm running XP, was running AVG 7.5 (uninstalled, can’t re-install), and Windows Firewall.

Can anyone please tell me where to get started (a) to boot, and (B) to clear whatever the virus is? If I could even boot in safe mode and install the software, I could follow the advice from the AVG pages...

    Many thanks for your time.

  4. Hi

My new PC with XP Pro will not keep web pages in the History. I use this a lot as I am on dial-up. I've got it set to keep pages for 21 days in Internet Explorer and Firefox. I've allocated it sufficient hard disk space and I periodically clear the backlog of Temporary Internet Files.

    AMD Athlon 64 X2 3600

    1 gb memory

    160 gb hard drive

    XP Pro

    Advice appreciated.

    Regards

  5. This one isn't urgent, but it's irritating me.

My normally faithful Gigabyte P965-DS3 has demonstrated a total inability to do all of these three tasks simultaneously:

    1) overclock

    2) run 4 DIMMs

    3) boot with more than 1 USB device plugged in

This irks me, since it was everybody's favorite overclocking board in it's day - but I guess that was a day when RAM was much more expensive, and people in general didn't test it with 4 sticks.

For now I shall simply not plug in my scanner/pendrive until I've booted into windows, but in the long run I'm on the lookout for a new motherboard. I don't care about SLI, firewire, RAID, or really anything beyond being able to do the three points above at the same time. I have 1 SATA HDD, 1 SATA DVD, and no floppy, serial, or parallel devices needing legacy sockets.

I currently have my eye on an Asus P5K-E WiFi (since it would be no bad thing to get rid of my PCI wireless card in the process) but I am open to suggestion from anyone who is managing all 3 of the above with a different board

    Thoughts appreciated.

  6. Studying for Microsoft Office is not all that difficult if you know where to start. However, most people are clueless at first and need some direction or at the very least some tips to help them study for Microsoft Office. The following tips will help you with your MS Office training.

    Tip 1

Start EarlyWhen it comes to Microsoft Office training you want to start early rather than waiting until the last minute. The reason why is because it takes time to learn all you need to learn and you want to take your time absorbing the information and really learning it. If you wait until the last minute to study you may learn enough information to pass the exam but it is unlikely you will have really learned the information.

    Tip 2

TutorialsA great way to learn is to use a Microsoft Office tutorial. The tutorial will walk you through the steps you need to follow in order for you to learn everything necessary about Microsoft Office You can use the Microsoft Office tutorial CD to focus on what is necessary and what is not. You will be able to learn in a focused manner which is really important and it will prepare you for the exam.

    Tip 3

Practice TestAnother good idea to help you study for Microsoft Office certification is to take practice tests online. Doing this will give you a good idea of how prepared you are and what areas you still need to focus on. Sit down with a timer and start taking a practice test. Then evaluate your score. Doing this will give you a realistic idea of whether you are prepared for the Microsoft Office exam or not.

These are just a few tips to help you study for Microsoft Office. There are of course many other ways you can study for your Microsoft Office certification and you know your study methods best. However, what is most important is that you are prepared for exam and that you put forth all of your efforts in order to pass the test the first time around. By not studying the way you should you could easily fail the test and would have to take it again wasting your precious time and money. So, follow the tips outlined here and you will be prepared for your Microsoft Office exam.

  7. I have just installed a nice new Q6600, Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 and 2gb Patriot 800Mhz DDR2 to go with my 8800 GTS 320mb.

I'm having some problems overclocking it though.

I have it set on the default settings (266x9 / 266x6 idle [speedStep])

I read This article on how fast a Q6600 can go. I know my rig isn't as powerfull as that, so I tried upping the voltage to 1.4 and the FSB clock to 300 (2.7gb) but once I saved, the PC went into a loop. It powered on, then off, then on, then off, then the failsafe kicked in and it reset everything back to normal.

    Has anyone got any tips?

I've not overclocked since I had my old Single core AMD a few years ago, and I've not used Intel since it was like installing a SNES game xD

    Thanks
