  4. hi chappy when i changed the battery from one compt to another they had the same numbers at the moment it is keeping its settings but iwill buy anew one to morrow. yes iwas aware to take not of the numbers im going to need to reinstall win 98 on this old bugger i tried to install from the 98 cd . but i keep getting an error notice . i have tried from a 98 floppy but after the format option it goes back to the cursor and then im lost i tried typing setup . setup.exe this is a pentuim[r] so it is old it already has win98 but there are missing files the previous owner must have delete
  5. hi thanks to steves post at g4 i have it sorted out now. i had a mother board here and i. transfered the battery from one to the other. and it keeps its settings fine now. tho i will buy a new one when i get the time but for now it is working fine thanks to all much appreciated i couldnt get back to this thread in time to post all had been fixed. so again thanks marty

  7. i have this compt with a flat battery if i pull it out and insert another what happens to my settings? what do i have to do to save my settings? i do not know how to flash the bios. so thats out for me. wii i have to reinstall windows 98? thanks marty
  8. hi kieth i had windows xppro on a 500-4.8hdd 128 mg of ram. and it did the job fine. sure it was slower then but those days i wasnt looking for speed. and as well i wasent a gamer. most gamers want speed that is why they buy these big rigs. i used to get jived at techtv for my sys being to small. but i got along fine i know some who turn off the scanner. ect to get more speed but now i know a little bit more i increased my compt components good luck marty
  9. yes thanks guys pete yes one of them was so old when you went to the bios it just showed 3 selection boxes with the options.i think 4 in each . but i took out some of the compoents and used them in the other . i also got his eddo ram . and ive benn offered bit of money so i think ile get the buyer to donate the money to those kids. in the older compt the ram is held in by wire springs yes pete this one is a p166 and the other is a p133. geez i had a headache trying to sort out the lead lines . there arnt any names on the plugs .   10. are you trying to delete the entrys in the start search bar it can be done in the reg and i understand mrublaster will also delete them i havent tried it so dont quote me on it or am i on the wrong path marty
  11. hi team ive done this many times but now im haveing trouble. i had 2 very very. old compts given to me so for practice i tooks out the bits in one and transferred them to another ok this was successful im even on the net with it now. i posted once before about giveing these to intellectually handicap people i made a dam good job of it [pat on the back] they were so old the k-board input was a bold round thing and the mouse was a screwin type . now my problem i tried to put one of the hdds in another compt running xppro. this drivce had win 98 i used my xp disk to delete the partition .

  15. hi team i saw an amazing spectical 10 mnts ago i was watching a greyhound race and if any one is familair with greyhound racing they chase a an electric bunny around the track and who ever goes past the post first wins how ever just as they came to the turn. a real bunny tunred up. all but one of field chased the real bunny, and the lone one chased the eletric \one. he won the race but now they cant figure out how to pay out if one hadent won the race it could have been abandoned but thier rules dosent allow for that my god i roled around the floor laughing my a-----off the good news

  17. hi TheTerrorist_75 yes this is something im not sure about i got the sp2 cd from microsoft which didnt have the option to access the recovery console i typed the nesiscery path in the run box but it said my cd was out of sync with my sys and i needed to install the i386 folder to my harddrive so i did that. then i had to install the latest sp2 update to my hdd from the microsoft website but that will take ten hrs and ime on dial up when i posted chappy said wait and i will write an easy tutorial to the board so i was waiting for him to p[ost . the other problem i had i have 2 compt

  22. ok chappy ive just reverted one of these compt back to 32bit as the recovery console isnt compatabe to 64bit i tried installing the i386 folder on the 64bit but it keeps giving me an error notice. im now waiting for your tutorial on installing the recovery console via slipstreamming and please make it easy as you can i just installed the windows support tools and i had to print it out and get a friend to read it to me word for word. i presum it is transferred from your hdd to a cd. so i have some Queries for you later god why did i take up trying to use a compt it is never ending. thanks
  23. yes i agree with steve, it would be dangerous to delete things. if you dont know what they are . and sixty of them is quite a few to sift through. a lot of my saved programs i delete from there . but i do it through safe mode. yes take steves advice and be care ful in there marty
