  1. Thanks folks. Bill was always so prolific on the old Tech Boards. Once had a disagreement with Bill. He claimed that Marty was from Aussieland. He would not believe he was from Kiwiland. Thanks for the World Star Messgae Board site. It looks to be quite an interesting site Bryan
  2. There used to be many posts from Bill Melanson on the old Tech TV Boards but have not seen any activity from him for a long time. Anyone know the score on him Bryan

    About U?

Married 47 years - three grown up kids - 8 grandkids and one Great grandkid. Retired and live in British Columbia. Canada. As old as I am I still feel that I should learn something new everyday. Make furniture, clocks and all sorts of woodwork projects in my spare time during the cooler months. Have a large garden so grow most of the fruit and vegetables we need during the Summer months. Bryan
  4. I am interested in getting rid of my VHS recorder and buying a DVD recorder to take its place. I remember getting bitten when I bought a Beta Tape recorder instead of a VHS. That was in the days when a VCR cost over a $1,000. Now we have a couple of different formats in DVD recorders with the + and - and also Ram. I have googled this subject but am no better off. Wondered if anyone has any thoughts regarding which format will win out, or recommendations. Thanks Bryan
  5. I think he is just having a bit of fun with you Bryan
  6. That's a good point iccaros. I know my son's email server is so parannoic it almost blocks any attachment nevermind html. You would think these paranoic servers would at least give the addressee the option Bryan

    Dumb Laws

There is a law in British Columbia, Canada, that outlaws interupting a grasshopper meeting Bryan
  8. Thank you very much Burt it works just fine Bryan
  9. Does anyone know how to change a regular URL into the words "click Here" when sending a site by email. I don't mean for the message Boards but a regular email using Outlook Express Thanks Bryan
  10. Lets us just compound this a bit further. I have Avast as my main program and AVG (turned off but kept up to date) I use AVG to scan individual files as well as Avast. I also have the latest updated Zone Alarm which also has virus detection abilities and of course is running all the time. Yesterday I received an email containing a VBS extension and it was stopped by Zone Alarm. I scanned the file with both AVG and Avast and both scans came up clean. If it is not advisable to run two AV programs at the same time it looks like we should turn off the Zone Alarm program. Ideas Bryan
  11. Thanks for your reply. He has his problem fixed. His son refomatted for him after backing up to disc, Bryan
  12. My brother who lives overseas has asked me if I can help him with a problem he has. I am stumped by this one and wondered if anyone has any ideas. I will paste his email but he does not give too much info. I am pretty sure he is running Windows 98 I have asked for more info but in the meatime here is his problem:- I have a small problem with my machine, when I open a photo to look at it, it then goes into my history of visited web sites as though I was looking at a web page and not one of my own photos, also when I delete a photo I don't want, it becomes according to my Norton utilities a mi
  13. Yup and you had to walk three miles to school and it was uphill both ways Bryan
  14. Thanks ill _Wicccan. I have googled but came up with nothing. I do have all digital TV High definition etc. and I only wish I could connect my 50 inch tv to the computer as Snaxe suggests but I am afraid the two components are too far apart to make this practical. Bryan
  15. I just wondered if anyone knows a program or method to put Powerpoint Shows on to a Disc so they can be shown on Television. I am running 98SE. have Nero 5 Bryan
  16. I used to have Norton but found it conflicted with my Zone Alarm. I then used the free AVG which was pretty good until updates started to foul up. (they have fixed that now) so went to Avast and have been very happy with it since. Avast updates itself whether you want it to or not and it also updates itself when it upgrades. I still have the free AVG on my system and update it periodically but I don't have it running at the same time as Avast. I recommend Avast highly. One thought though; turn off the siren that sounds when an incoming virus is picked up or it will scare you to death. Bryan

If all our current members were to encourage friends to join it would make a difference. I agree Marty we don't want to lose this Board but at the same time we need to keep irresponsibles away. Bryan
  18. Could be Chappy but I tried to add comments on two separate days and the comments did not appear. Pleased to see the Board has several knowledgable members from the old Tech TV Boards Bryan
  19. I made a comment (on two occasions) basically to thank Crow and everyone else who had supplied input to my original question but after posting neither attempt appeared in the post. Is this question now locked? Anyways, thanks to all who replied Bryan
  20. Hi Crow, thanks again for your advice. I will advise her to remove all those programs she has running at startup and see if that helps to speed her computer up. Thanks to to everyone else who responded Bryan
  21. Thanks Crow, your comments make a lot of sense. I have sent that Microsoft XP item to restore the speed of your computer to her and hopefully she can get the problem resolved. Thanks also to everyone else who responded too. I know she will continue to use KAAZaa lite harmful or not. Bryan
  22. I check the Boards here at least twice per day. At least it seems to me that members here are more serious and way more polite than some other Boards. Thanks a lot B for providing the Board Bryan
  23. Thanks for all your replies. I just cleaned up my computer (got rid of cookies, history, Temorary files etc.) The lag averaging 17 seconds comes when I double click on my desktop to open Internet sites such as Bestechie, G4 Tech TV etc. Once into the site there is no lag and it is quicker to open sites than it is in IE. There was no lag using IE. when I clicked on my desktop. It is no big thing but 17 seconds seems a long time when you are not accustomed to waiting. I am using 98se, free Zone Alarm and Avast AV. Yes I guess I will have to learn how to configure FF. Thanks again for
  24. I have tried Firefox a few times and after a while I go back to Explorer because of the slowness of firefox. I am on broadband and it takes Firefox at leat 12 seconds to open any sites that I open up. Internet explorer does not have this lag before opnning. Any one have any comments on this Thanks Bryan
  25. hey Marty, this happened to me a couple of years ago after I downloaded a pop-up blocking program. Everytime I used the scroll wheel the scrolling would go up and down uncontrollably. It didn't happen when I used the up and down arrows. I just got rid of the pop-up blocker and the problem ended. Bryan
