  1. Hey guys and gals

I'm thinking of purchasing a laptop and decided to go with dells inspiron series the 1420. core 2 duo 1.66 GHz with 2MB L2 cache, 667MHz FSB. 2 GB DDR2 ram at 667MHz and an Nvidia 8400M GS graphics card(highest they have) will this be enough to run a game like Overlord.

I currently have a P4 3 GhZ, 1GB ram at 400Mhz and an ATI Radeon 9550 with the latest drivers. I have played Overlord at 1024x768 at 75Hz and medium detail and its extremely slow when I try to move or look around the movemnet is choppy and takes about 1 sec after I let go of the keys. Not enjoyable at all

I'm on a Windows Xp machine forgot to mention

    Specs for overlord are

Windows XP, DirectX 9.0c, Pentium 2.4 GHz or Athlon XP 2400+ processor, 512 MB RAM, GeForce FX5900 or Radeon 9500 graphics card, 4.5 GB Hard Drive Space, 2x DVD-ROM Drive.

  2. well mainly for school... I will carry it to school most days and work on it at home as well nothing too fancy maybe some virtual PC related operations and so on it doesn't matter 15" or 17" I just want to get some feedback from the pros...also with Intel releasing their santa rosa chip sets will the price for the existing core duos come down significantly in the fall?

  3. Oops, I was looking at the overview page instead of the features page ;). If you fine techies recommend it I will get it. Also something that just popped into my head a few weeks ago but I forgot to ask was if it can do a full back up of the O/S and you install it on a separate machine wouldn't you have to reactivate windows? also wouldn't you have some issues where the O/S is expecting a certain motherboard, RAM, processor etc...

  4. Are there any really good disk imaging software out there? Norton Ghost or an equivalent to that. What I want to do is Back up my HDD full then incremental backups after that. I have XP (Vista Ultimate comes with one) I would like it to be free but backing up data can be invaluable sometimes. THX in advance :-)

  5. I was thinking of buying a laptop soon and was wondering if prices would come down during September, for school... I was thinking about getting a 15 inch but is a 17 inch better? I believe the prices are about the same.

I would like to get a duel core or core 2 duo (almost the same thing) running at 2 GHz approx. 1 GB or RAM I can upgrade that myself...also if I were to ask the sales person would they know what speed the RAM is? THX in advance

  6. I want to get a laptop soon and was leaning more towards purchasing RAM than processing power a duel core 1.7GHz is fast 120 GB is fine. So with the money I save I can get more Ram installed plus buy a 2.5' HDD and all that would be comparable to a mid range laptop...am I crazy for thinking such things or on to something?

Also I don't want to use the OEM version thats pre-installed with the laptop but I guess I have no choice without the serial number (maybe going some special sites). software like PC-Decrapifier might help.

  7. I just wanted to add...If you do decide to expand the RAM even more check if your motherboard has duel channel. So you would put a stick in the first skip the second and install it in the 3rd slot it would give you additional performance.

If you have XP it will probably be better to stick with 1 GB unless you find that you need more or if you are thinking of installing Vista...But if your going to go that far maybe a new comp would be better. Anyway I'm board so I thought I'd give my 2 cents. Bye

  8. This has been happening since I updated to Firefox 2.0 Sometimes out of the blue firefox just craps out in the middle of a session. Sometimes when I start it, it just shuts down giving me the error whether or not to report it to MS. I wonder if reinstalling FF would eliminate this issue. I really like FF and haven't touched IE for a long time.

on a side note:What is a great back up solution something along the lines of Norton Ghost?

  9. (Not really important) I will buy a new laptop come the new school year I'm thinking of an intel because of their transistors 65nm better them AMDs 90nm anyway 2 GB RAM HDD don't care have a 250 GB external has to have a good graphics card inter graded. Now I'm thinking of a Toshiba which will probably have Vista which is ok.

Now the questions the CD that the manufacturer supplies is that like an iso of what they have on all laptops merely for when something happens can I burn it for a backup (I know it will only work on the specific laptop brand) Is it wise to uninstall some of the crap software it comes with? Should I delete the hidden partion that will be there?

If you can elaborate on some other laptop questions that are frequently asked that would be helpful as well.

  10. That would help if I had the video in my iTunes library, but I don't. I had the video on my iPod and in the Movies section from my I pod in iTunes I specified it as a Music Video...So it was never in my iTunes library to begin with.

Therefore I cannot delete it through iTunes. If there was any confusion sorry about that.

  11. I was fooling around with my iPod in iTunes and right clicked a video and changed it to music video (via right click>video>video kind) and I cant see it in iTunes anymore. Cant be deleted from ipod(damn) and cant delete it in ipod diskmode (hundreds of files with weird names..will take hours to find it)

Can anyone come up with a solution?

This is just a home video I converted to an mp4 not bought from iTunes!

*to mod:didn't know where to post sorry

  12. Now that I have lured you in here...I have seen videos and some people talk about rapping a RJ45 cable around their cellphone connecting it to the ethernet and having an increase in their wireless signal. Is this true? I have tried it and it doesn't seem to work. You have to open your cell (if its a flip phone) rap the ethernet cord around the bottom part not screen really tight and connect it to the PC its said that the anntana in the phone is a lot stronger then the one on the laptop/PC so you get in theory (at least for me) a better signal which means faster speed when far from the router.

Can someone please put some truth to this.
