JDoors
So you may know I work for a casino. The casino's been there for going on twelve years. Yesterday I go to work and there's a new surviellance camera ... in the breakroom. What's next? [Looking up at the camera]: "Hey, Sky1, could you have someone send some toilet paper in here?" That does indeed sound like over-kill. At my work site our e-mail and Internet use is monitored. I agree, JDoors, an employer spying is annoying.

Your mentioning the toilet paper reminded me of the occasional news story about someone installing a hidden camera in the ladys bathroom in a store or restaurant taking pics of us poor unsuspecting gals. Some of the hiding spots have been pretty ingenious, making it impossible for us gals to easily spot where one is!!! I'd sure be mad if someone did that to me!!! And it had definitely better not be company placed in work place bathrooms unless the company likes lawsuits!!!The legal surveillance cameras that bug me the most are the red light traffic cameras that catch cars even on a yellow light and automatic traffic tickets. Just seems trickier to me than the proverbial cop on a motorcycle behind the billboard" waiting to fill his daily ticket quota!!PatGod bless everyone

They are highly trainned, skilled people that need to stay on the cases of grand theft, assaults, B&E's, etc... No, wait! The cameras ought to be ticketing the *ssholes with phones in their ears. JDoors
... an employer spying is annoying. And yet ... knowing there are cameras everywhere ... employees still try to steal, or do other things, right under the cameras! I watched a guard escort a customer to her car, standard procedure if you request it. But then they started making out. Umm, not so standard. Then ... they crawled into the backseat of the car! They were RIGHT UNDER A CAMERA. He got fired and I can't imagine what he told his wife, "Yeah honey, I got fired today." "Oh no! What for?" "Uhh ..... "

We had an employee at our company who chose to surf shall we say "less than appropriate sites" and he lost his Internet access. Sheesh. For the vast majority of us company spying is a fact of life that we've come to live with. I suppose our employers do need to watch for the few among us that choose to make foolish choices. The lack of evident trust from management is a slap in the face, though.
JDoors
... he lost his Internet access. ... At least, as far as you stated, HE broke the rules and HE, alone, was punished -- Most management nowadays would take Internet access away from EVERYBODY. I have a billion examples of such scorched-Earth management where I work.
Chappy
... he lost his Internet access. ... At least, as far as you stated, HE broke the rules and HE, alone, was punished -- Most management nowadays would take Internet access away from EVERYBODY. I have a billion examples of such scorched-Earth management where I work. That is what it's like at my employer, City of Regina...but it's really for a very good reason. They allow access for City business ONLY nowadays but it used to be wide open and of course some idiots got their PC's infected terribly.Well, when the big Internet worms were hitting everyone, of course we were hit also by the less than "savvy" users in the City employ, and our networks were devastated!! Cost hundreds of $1000's to repair and replace data from the tax rolls, infrastructure files and controls, management files...etc, it was a huge mess.Even after that they allowed SOME access but restricted it with filtering. Well, some dummies (in the Fire Dept no less...sigh) were still able to get Virus d'loaded onto city network servers, and we lost 9-1-1 capabilities and certain emergency logging and notification events for awhile.Needless to say, they were NOT AMUSED!!!So, ALL internet access is restricted to City business ONLY and they monitor it strictly!! If you so much as check your online bank account, the IT guy's will notify your immediate supervisor and you'll be "officially" reprimanded. If it continues, you can be dismissed and any cost associated with data loss due to viral infections you may allow in, can be sued for.
