irregularjoe
Hi.I have an old Dell Dimension that I thought I'd put back in working condition. It originally came with WinME which of course crashed a million times.I later put a copy of XP Pro on it from a CD that won't pass muster now due to all the Windows Genuine (pain-in-the-A)dvantage crap. Here's the question:If I do a clean install of the OEM Windows Me (and it doesn't crash for at least an hour) can I then install a new XP UPGRADE (not full) and use the OEM WinMe CD as the qualifier? Or do I even HAVE to put WinMe on it first? Thanks,Joe Edited September 6, 2006 by irregularjoe
jimras
MOST times when you install an upgrade, at some point early in the install, you have to insert the CD from the version that you are upgrading FROM.I have an XP Pro Upgrade and everytime I have had to reformat, I have had to put my WIN 2K CD in the drive at one point but I didn't have to install 2K first.I don't know for sure how OEM CD's work but I would think it should work for you
Chappy
You shouldn't have to install ME first, just insert the ME CD at the point where the XP install asks to insert a previous OS CD or key. You also can just type in the ME product code at that point and everything should continue.
