xxkbxx
Okay, I'm installing Fedora Core 5 when I get back from the beach Friday - so I figure I'd give this question time to stew. What is the best way to configure the bootloader so that I can have a multi boot system with Fedora and XP - that is easy to remove in case I need to?I've read that you can do so without messing with the MBR, by installing a tiny partition with the loader right before Windows (before the 1024 cylinder)Let me know so I can be running two OS's by next week! jimras
just for what it's worth,I've had Ubuntu and XP running andI've used the grub loader which does write to the MBR but if you remove the Linux OS, then run the "fixmbr"from the XP install/repair.I've done this two or three times andNEVER had any problems.jr
xxkbxx
Okay, I'll keep that in mind. The simpler the better (and the defualt GRUB is the simpler!)
naraku9333
If your that worried about messing up the mbr why not use a virtual machine?
shanenin
The simplest would be just to let fedora install grub to the mbr. If yoou do not want it anymore, just run fixmbr. A second option, I have never tried would be to install grub to your /boot partition, then use the ntldr to boot linux. Below is the general instuctions.http://www.devhood.com/Tutorials/tutorial_...tutorial_id=
xxkbxx
I'll just do GRUB on the MBR - hopefully this time it'll boot and I won't have a need to remove Linux. Well I'm headed to the beach, thanks!
