wonderent Posted March 19, 2006 Report Share Posted March 19, 2006 Will appreciate anyone's time.I have a friend who used to be able to log in to her company's website with a password and username but cannot now.I came home and was able to get it on my computer, so I know it should work for her.She is still using Windows 98, but I feel like it is probably something in the advanced options of Internet Explorer that is checked or not checked. I cleared her temp files but never would have thought to clear history. You've taught me something new.I know how to clear history by going through IE Internet options. The newest Norton has "2005 inside for 98 & ME" but have heard from a computer repair person that it is really too much for win98.I don't want to give her more problems. She uses the computer very little. She doesn't have to use the company site...just wants to be able to. I would love to get something figured out for her. martymas Posted March 19, 2006 Report Share Posted March 19, 2006 before i try to answer your Qwhen i saw your sig nancy. i know you from somewhere elsemaybe techtv c.f.hback to the Q my advice is for her to use avast for a new user it is free and tho avg and avast are good scanners avast is smaller and better for a new user because it dosent allow a virus to enter your sys if a virus is detected a siren will go off and a voice asks you what to do about delete or put it in the vault avg isolates it by putting it in the vaultand you delete it from thereit is a matter of personal choice free scanners are good to day they have to be to stay there i use avg it is a bit faster to use than avast tho that dosent make it any betteri have no comment about paid ones like semantics ,.nortons .mkafries ectas i havent used them tho avast and avg have their pro versionsmarty Quote Link to post Share on other sites

She has dial up, and this would be so much easier if you think it would be safe for me. I guess what I'm asking is....if I went to the avast site to get the program, will it be like when you get any other program -- you download the .exe fileand nothing really happens or affects your computer until you run the fileto install the program?[Yes! You can use the neighbors email address or yours. If you use yours just write the registration number down so it can be inputted into Avast after it is installed.
