tjenn
I have a 20GB HDD that I installed Ubuntu on and want to move the HDD to another computer. When I moved it, it doesnt boot up and tells me the X-Server(graphical interface)couldn't be started. Now, I've tried it on other computers and it boots up fine. Why is this? tictoc5150
Sounds like you've gotten lucky with the swaps...given that X is configured for video card it is running on, I assume the machines had similar graphics at least made by the same company.you could try:sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorgto reconfigure X
shanenin
you could also reconfigure you xorgconfig file using the command sudo xorgconfigyou will need to know for moniter specs like the vertical refresh and horizontal sync rates. You will also be asked what video card you have.you can check what video card you are using, with the following command/sbin/lspci | grep -i vga

It worked. I had to mess around with the settings to figure it all out. This 9 year Windows veteran is finally learning Linux.
