Guest tjr80
Hi, I have a HDD that has Knoppix . When I try to boot up to the Knoppix, I get the error "Kernel Panic-not syncing:Attempted to kill init!" What is this? Edited January 12, 2006 by tjr80
iccaros
did it ever boot?when you say knoppix... you installed knoppix to a harddrivedid you update the system..This is normaly caused by updateing a kernel and not updating a initrd file.. as knoppix is a driviative a debian, but changed to use a loop based boot. updateing the kernel using apt or synaptic could easly kill the system..did the error look like this exec of init (/sbin/init) failed!!! : 2umount /initrd/dev failed: 2Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!can you boot a live version of knoppix, mount the drive (hda1 right)go to /bootdo a ls -la and post itcd grubls -la postthen post the output of cat menu.1stor cat grub.confand cat device.maplast cat /etc/fstab
