hi team i just scanned my d: with house call and avg

and both scanners detect a i kill the c-mos trojon

my son sent the the cd which had wipe the drive.

and i can tremember the other .i ant to istall win98se on a sys that has used winxp

and i need to change from nfts to fat

and the only way is to wipe the data off the drive.

now these scanners are seeing these wipe appli as a virus.my son said they arnt viruses but that is the way the scanners sees them

i cant delete them because i cant delelte them from a cd.or can i can some one help

you don't need to use a separate program to wipe the drive.

when you delete the existing partition(s), make new one's and then format the partitions, you'll have effectively wiped out the previously stored files.

the only proper thing to do with an infected cd is to physically break it, then throw it away. this avoids the possiblity of forgetting weeks or months later that it is infected and then putting it in the system. if there are files on it that are clean, you can first copy those to the hard drive and make a new cd.

hi how do i delete the nfts partition to put a fts which is on win98se.

im tried it before and when i got to the bit that says setup

a notice came up saying this cant be setup in dos.and i was told that is because im changing

back from nfts to fts.

and that the drive needs to be wiped to clear it from nfts.

and reset it to fts.

im new at this if it was from 98se to xp i can handle that but from xp to 98se is another ball game

I don't know much about XP but I would think you could use your 98 setup floppy to do an fdisk and delete the partition. maybe not with nfts.

If you do have to end up wiping your drive:

Eraser

Kill Disk

Both are free.

boot u'r xp install cd and, after the f8 agreement, u can just delete partitions. then f3 exit. put in u'r 9x installer and install. might wanna throw an fdisk /mbr at it first to re-write the bootsec

ok the problem is fixed now after reading your replys

i used the fdisk format option

and i must admit

i had forgotten how to do it until i tried all the posters fixes

one of the bugbears of xp is

it is so easy that to try another sys brings you up with a jolt

so thanks all

and again i appoligise for not getting back

with the promise it wont happen again .
