Dragon
guys and gals I really do appreciate all the tips and tricks but I think you're forgetting that not everyone runs WINXP. if I can make a suggestion when you post a tip could you list all the windows versions that these tips work on? thanks much.hi bearskin, just a FYI, currently all new tips and tricks for windows will be based on WINXP. There are a couple of reasons for this.first, approximately 85%-95% of all computers are running either Windows 2k or XPsecond, no one is making tricks and tips for Windows 9x/me since they are now considered "outdated" and have reached their EOL through MS. In the next couple years or two you will only be seeing Windows tips and tricks for the new Windows Vista. adn as with Windows 9x/me, Windows XP will reach its EOL within a couple of years after that.Don't feel that we are singling out only the users with Windows 2K/XP. its just that there are no new tricks or tips being created for the older OS that some people still use. Pierce
Quite a few tricks come from previous versions, like Ctrl + Alt + Del was considered a developer easter egg in windows 95.Generaly most keyboard shortcuts that exist in xp should work in previous versions of windows.I think its a good point to highlight which versions of windows these tricks are being tried and tested on.Its hard to believe that even in 2003 windows 98 still had a 14% share of the market (windows xp came out late 2001). Check out the w3c surveyhttp://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_stats.aspEven today, windows 98 is only .5% behind linux and thats a 7 year old OS!PiercePierce
bearskin
Then I can assume that there are a "LOT" of us that have no need to read these posts.how do they determine how many people are using what os?who does these polls to figure out the percentage?are they as reliable as the election exit polls?Maybe people using older os don't have as many problems.I think we would really be surprised how many people still use the older operating systems. TheTerrorist_75
In 2003 Win98 had a 28% (90+ million people) share of Windows OSes used by consumers. Business users comprised the 14% share mentioned. Win98 is still installed on many PCs such as mine. Support doesn't end until mid 2006 and then who is to say the MS will not extend that again. I have downloaded every update and burned it to disk. I shall not install WinXP until I see a stable release of SP3. I expect to see WinXP used for another 5 years at least. Many people will be unwilling to use Vista for a few years after it's release due to the past record of MS.Remember WinME is just a fluffed version of 98.http://users.accesscomm.ca/gbraun/w98/http://www.helpwithwindows.com/windows98/all-tips.htmlhttp://malektips.com/windows_98_help_and_tips.htmlhttp://www.helpwithwindows.com/windowsMe/http://www.activewin.com/winme/tips/index.shtml
