My pc wont play any sound, it says theres no device connected, ive checked the sockets but i cant seem to find anything loose etc?

this is what windows media player came up with when i tried to play a song

Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly.

Also,

This is what i see under the device manager:

audio codecs

legacy audio drivers

legacy video capture devices

media control devices

realtek AC'97 audio for VIA ® audio controller

Standrad games port

video codecs

any help would be appreciated, thanks lynsey

Hey Lynsey,

Ok, lets try this:

Right click realtek AC'97 audio for VIA ® audio controller

Choose Properties

Under the General tab at the bottom make sure 'Device Usage' is set to 'Use this device (enable)'

If it set to enable already, then try doing this:

Right click realtek AC'97 audio for VIA ® audio controller

Click uninstall

Then reboot your computer

Windows should notice the the sound card and reinstall the drivers for it. Let's see if that fixes the problem. B)
