How Many Files Can Be Burned To Cd?

Recommended Posts

Here's a very quick question: is there a limit to the number of files that can be burned to a blank CD, regardless of how much free space there would be on the disc afterwards? For example, would I be able to burn 10,000+ files that take up only 400MB to CD? I've tried searching Google, but I don't know how to properly phrase such a complex query, so I didn't get any helpful results.

Thanks.

There is a limit (it's finite storage, after all) but the exact number depends on the media, format, operating system, and application. It appears that it's generally very high, several hundred thousand files.

But don't blame me if it doesn't work :)

The cd doesn't care what type of data it has on it, it's all just 1 and 0. It shouldn't matter if it's one 400mb file 400 1mb files or whatever. And your computer doesn't care if the data is on a hard drive a cd, dvd, thumb drive, network or even a floppy as long as it has permission to use it.
