imabooger
I have xp. I also have an aopen 16xdvd-rom/ amh. My problem is that it won't recognize a dvd. It'll play a cd. I don't have a installation disc. The only thing I knew to try was unstall it in device manager then restart. Didn't work. I also have added a dvd burner and it works fine. I can use it, but I'd like to know why my dvd rom won't work? Thanks for any help in advance.
il_wiccan
I could be wrong but I was thinking some of the older DVD-ROM drives will not play burned DVD's. They don't recognise the disk format......
Pete_C
The drive uses a seperate laser for CDROM and DVD (different frequency) so it is possible that the DVD laser failed and the CDROM one is still functional. If it is a matter of playing DVDs, this is a matter of software. You need a program like WinDVD to play and view (Decode) DVD format. If the disks play on the burner, but not the player, I would go with the laser failed.First thing to do is to run a laser lens cleaner (looks like a cd with a row of toothbrush bristles on it) to ensure it is not just coated with dust.DVD requires a lot finer focus, and is thus more susceptible to a little dust scattering the light. JDoors
Ouch, I did a websearch for "aopen 16xdvd-rom/ amh" (without quotes) and got lots of "won't play DVDs" from other forums and sites. You could search through all that stuff, or get your money back, which is what I might do if'n I was you.
