* CounterSpy Protects Against New Spyware Keylogger

It was all over the press this week! We made the New York Times

and hundreds of other publications. A newly identified spyware

keylogger, named 'Srv.SSA-KeyLogger', was discovered by Sunbelt's

Research team, uncovering a massive online identity theft ring in

which thousands and thousands of unsuspecting computer users'

personal data was compromised.

The keylogger itself is a new variant of existing Trojans. It

secretly steals data from users' internet sessions, including

logins and passwords from online banking sessions, eBay, PayPal,

and any other programs that use web-based forms to collect personal

information.

To protect CounterSpy users from this harmful keylogger, a set

of new definitions (version 217) have been added to CounterSpy's

spyware threat database. Make sure the definitions of CounterSpy

Consumer are updated to version 217 and up (by clicking on File,

Check for updates) and test your PC for this new spyware.

IF your PC -is- infected, and Srv.SSA-KeyLogger shows up as

quarantined by CounterSpy, that means your personal information

has been compromised. Make sure to warn any financial institution

(Banks, PayPal, eBay, stock broker, etc) you have recently checked

via this PC and change your passwords for these accounts immediately!
