shanenin
If I have one harddrive set to master, and I have a second set to slave, does it matter where on the ide cable they are plugged in? will the drive set to master be at hd0 no matter what postition on the cable it is(the end or the middle)? mikex
I think it does matter.Master is the end of the cable and the slave is the mid connection.M

murtu52
I think the position of the clip on the harddrive differs from company to company, though i don't have any evidence to back it up...
Chappy
Hi shaneninYes it does matter, the Master must always be at the top of the IDE chain.Cable Select works in this way, it takes the HDD at the top of the IDE and sets it at Master and the middle HDD is set to Slave automatically, without using jumpers to make the selection. shanenin
if you do not use cable select, and manually set them master and slave, then does it matter?
Chappy
if you do not use cable select, and manually set them master and slave, then does it matter?<{POST_SNAPBACK}>Yes, it still matters. Thats what I was trying to say, I just used Cable Select as an example of the IDE chain workings. The Master disk must be at the top of the chain.
