How ca I stop so many programs from starting

Recommended Posts

Ok found it ! Here is why one should not use MSConfig >>> If you have been using MSConfig as a startup manager please read this. >>> http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=149804

Here they are, you can pick the one you want ! I don't use any but it depends on the users computer, how fast it loads !!

A1...Codestuff Starter http://www.snapfiles.com/get/starter.html
Starter is a startup manager, that allows you to view and manage allthe programs that are starting
automatically whenever Windows boots. It lists all the hidden registry entries, as well as the common Startup Folder items as well. You can choose to safely disable selected entries, edit them or delete them altogether (if you know what you are doing). Expert users can even add their own entries.
A2...Startup Delayer http://www.snapfiles.com/get/startdelay.html
Startup Delayer allows you to specify which programs to start first and which ones to delay. You can set a custom delay for each one, even drag the visual display graph which shows you exactly how your programs are starting and allows you to easily modify the order or adjust delay times.
A3...Mike Lin's Startup Control Panel Startup Control Panel is a nifty control panel applet that allows you to easily configure which programs run when your computer starts. It is simple to use , very small and won't burden your system. http://www.snapfiles.com/get/startupcpl.html

These are all safe to use !! Hope this helps !

I found the cool stuff on this site.  I went to download and my McAfee popped up and said a virus was attached.  I just went through a Trojan that wiped out the OS and it cost me $140 to get it working again..  so you think this is a virus on the download.

Thanks, but whatever it was, it wiped out the OS.  I could not even get it to boot to the CD.  The shop did a clean sweep of the hard drive so I hope they removed it.  It was like new out out the box again. Thanks for the help.  I'm 70 and not very good with computers.   I'll try the site again and see what happens.  I can't understand why all of the warning were on the site.   I'm having an issue with McAfee and will probably dump them for Norton.

Howard, that's very strange ! I downloaded every link leading to the files & no virus !!

So here is a direct link to the program  >>> http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml

I would like to do some scans if you want to start a thread in the Malware Removal section ! I don't think they got all of the virus !!

I'm 67 & think they are the most facinating things since the jungles of Viet Nam !! ........ LMAO

Oh & McAfee & Norton i have tried both & i am more satisfied with the free edition of Avast than any.

So start me a post in the Malware Removal section & we can see if you are infected if you want ???

Thanks

Chuck
