I own a dell inspiron 5150 (WinXP SP2), and I am unable to here ANY sound coming from it (except for the fans, etc.) I am all out of ideas as to what could have caused the problem. I tried opening up the dell and wiggling the wires around, but no luck.... should I try to reinstall some drivers?? I have had this problem for months now, and it's getting annoying.

Any suggestions or coments would be GREATLY appreciated...

is your sound in board or sound card.

go to -start -control panel -sound and audio devices .

see if there is a check mark in place a volume icon on your taskbar.

if it isnt checked .

check it and see if an error notice comes up

and post the error notice to the thread .

do as novi says first. look to see if the volume icon is in your tray.

To answer all of your questions....

1. I do have volume control in my system tray

2. It was checked to start with marty, so i unchecked it, hit apply, then re-checked it again, and hit apply, and nothing happened.

3. I'm not sure if anything happened to my modem card lately.... I don't use it.

I'm almost positive that it is either a hardware problem, or something wrong with a sound driver.... any other help is greatly appreciated.

the sound card on these is integrated

go to control panel / system / hardware / device manager and see if there are any devices with a red x or a yellow !, if so let us know what devices

have you been to sound properties and checked all the boxes.

make sure there isnt any mute boxes checked .

try this uninstall your sound card driver .

then reboot your compt

in your tray it will say

hardware discovered or words like that.

then go to sys- hard ware -device manager

right click your sound card and up date your driver

if windows has configured your sound card driver it will say

cant find a better driver.

I just finished a "chat" with dell, and they confirmed that it had something to do with the motherboard.... I am going to send it to the depo, where it *should* be fixed and sent back to me in 5-7 days.

I'll post another reply once I get it back.

Thanks all,

brett
