Is It Ok To Delete Dlls

I see a lot of DLLs under WINDOW\Softwaredistribution\Download

and these same DLLs also in WINDOW\system32 etc

My question is:

1. Can I delete those DLLs in \download folder?

2. Can I delete those DLLs in Windows\$NtUninstalKxxxxx$\?

These $NtUnintalKxxxx$ are in blue color when I display them.

I notice a lot of same name DLLs with different version numbers are setting in my

computer, is it possible to know which version in use and is there a software

to remove old version (that is not used) automatically?

The WINDOWS\Softwaredistribution\Download folder is one of the folders used by Windows Update when it is installing patches.

(Another is WUTemp).

It is safe to delete that folder's contents.

(It's probably safe to delete the folder as well, Windows will likely create a new one when/if it needs it).

The blue color of the $NT... folders indicates they are compressed folders.

They contain the previous versions of the files replaced during a particular update.

The KB###### indicated which patch replaced these files.

If you're satisfied a particular update is working properly these can be deleted.

Personally, I'd back them up first.

If you do delete any of these $NT files, the corresponding Add/Remove entry will be invalid.

If you open Add/Remove Programs and try to uninstall one of these Hotfixes, you'll get an error.

A/R should offer to remove the broken link from its list (your choice).

for some time now i have regcleaner installed on my sy.

now and then i open reg-c.

go to tools view sys dlls.

go to search type n/a

and it will show all n/a dlls .

about 284 of them and i delete all 284 of them.

but i dont go out side of them.i leave them in the backup area for about a week then i delete them permently.

i tried to research dll files but there isnt much info. out there.

i do have a dll file.list in my favourites .

but if i sent it as alink im not sure if it will HELP with your Q.

This is a great place to check all those DLL's, just plug in the name and it should come back with some info. If not you will have to google for it.

it is an area im not hat familiar with.

so i try to keep to the normal path.

but im always open to learn about dlls as they are an important part of the OS.

i do have an appli with all dll files in the win operating sys.

where by you can down load any dll if you need it.

but i havent a clue how to use it.

if i did download .

but im willing to learn.

because of regclean ive learned a little about those dll files.
