Anti-spam laws likely

Friday, 5 September 2003

Govt likely to bring in laws to limit spam, unwanted e-mails, but may not be much use as many come from overseas

The Government is likely to follow Australia's lead and bring in anti-spam legislation.

Government papers obtained under the Official Information Act show spam, unwanted advertising e-mails, are causing considerable annoyance to New Zealanders.

Associate Minister for IT David Cunliffe says the Government is reviewing its options and is monitoring Australia's progress.

He says there is a danger that by not bringing in any laws, New Zealand may end up being seen as a soft touch.

The briefing papers say legislating will be difficult as most spam comes from overseas.

the rest of the article says.

people and organis ations who send multiple unwanted commercial emails ot text messages could risk fines of up to $500.000 .

the penalities are part of a part of a proposed new anti spam law .

the law is already in force in our next door neighbor. australia .

i have to admit i helped with the partition.

but my compt couldnt cope with the correspondence.

as i didnt realise implications of it all.

so to chappy and his partition good luck.

soon we hope the south pacific will free be of spam.

it may be a harder thing to im pose in the usa .

as the usa lives on commercialism.

and im not sure how anti spam can get round that.

yes i agree with you.

one of the getarounds is big corporate bizness .

they are very influential.

and spam is an easy way to advertise and it is also free .

i have just come from a meeting .

and we have been circulating a spam partition

with about 33.000 sigs sure i know it isnt many but it is a start.

every one who joins dont like spam but dont want to make waves.

one way to stop spam is to boycott the firms who are generating this stuff .

that is why i think chappy is brave circulating that partition he is fighting some of the most powerful corperations .

so we need to get in behind him

but it looks like the gov of my country has finally woken up SO FAR
