Matt
My laptop came with a 1.5 Gb/s harddrive. I'm looking to upgrade and I was wondering if my laptop's motherboard will only support 1.5 Gb/s Sata drives, or can I put in a 3.0 Gb/s?It's a Dell XPS M1530, if that helps. Falcon1986
If your laptop cannot support 3.0Gbps transfers it will only drop back to the 1.5Gbps speed.
Matt
If your laptop cannot support 3.0Gbps transfers it will only drop back to the 1.5Gbps speed. So, in other words, it's backwards-compatible and I can buy either?
Bubba Bob
Any 3gbs HDD will have a jumper setting to reduce the speed to 1.5gps.I can't find any info telling if your laptop will take advantage of the faster speed or not. If that's the info you're looking for, you may have to call Dell. Edited January 10, 2009 by Bubba Bob
shanenin
As Bubba Bob said, as far as i know all 3Gb/s sata drives can run as 1.5Gb/s with a jumper.
