tjet Posted November 17, 2008 Report Share Posted November 17, 2008 Hi all.A freind just called and has a garage sale PC of above make and model.He said it booted fine and he was on the net on dail up but it was running very slow.So he decided a destructive recovery from the partition,Says it ran then gave him choices and he choose boot from partition.Now he gets a black screen that says B /$ and nothing else happens. shanenin Posted November 19, 2008 Report Share Posted November 19, 2008 I also would consider checking the hard drive for defects. I usually run spinrite, but that is a paid program. The manufacture of the drive should make a free utility to check it.It is worth running memtest86 also. I doubt it is memory problem, but it is easy to check. Quote Link to post Share on other sites
