spirittoo
Hi all ... my friend's Compaq Presario 5330US power supply fan isn't running ... is there a way to get it to work again ... like cleaning it ... or does the power supply have to be replaced? Which would suck because it'a a compaq ...
shanenin
I have never tried to replace a fan on a PSU, I have always replaced the whole unit. Their are capacitors in a psu that can kill. So be careful if you try.
garmanma
Which would suck because it'a a compaq ...Doesn't matter nowadays, they're inter-changeable. Just match the correct form factor i.e. AT, ATX, micro-ATX
spirittoo
Any chance of you providing a link to one that would work ...
shanenin
I have seen old Compaqs, pentium 3s with a non standard 24 pin atx power connector. The model you mentioned is much newer, but from the googling I did, it seems that model may also be non-standard.
spirittoo
From what I remember the size is smaller than a standard atx p/s ... that was the problem .... I if he can't get the fan working then I need to find out where I can get a replacement at a reasonable price.
shanenin
If it uses a standard atx connector, you could make any micro atx power supply work.
spirittoo
Is it possible to provide a link to what you are referring to ... I would greatly appreciate it ...
garmanma
Back in March I changed one in my niece's Compaq. The problem was size. I double checked all of the measurements and came up with this ONE. It was a tight fit. I had to take off the front bezel and slide the CD and DVD drives forward, mount the PS and plug everything in, then slide the optical drives back in place. I don't remember what her model was, though
shanenin
What are the dimensions of the original supply?
