is there any way to open ubuntu

with out a user name and password

like i can with windows

and leaves those fields open when installing

ive also have had trouble partitioning

my 80gig hdd

to partition for ubuntu

ime using a dual boot

with windows on another drive.

and ive tried to partition the drive

so it will make the partition smaller

but it will only except the entire disk

what am i doing wrong

you should still need a password when running the update program. This way your system is still protected while your user account is open ..

Yes. He will still need to enter his log-in password to update his system when running synaptic or apt-get. iccaros makes an excellent point, marty. Don't click on save admin password when you update your system.
