Vista Icon Trouble

I'm havin trouble with my Vista Laptop and it's desktop icons. Every time I restart the thing the icons get rearranged. I move them to where I want them and when I shut it down and turn it back on later, the icons are right back where they were. Why does it keep doing this and how can I stop it?

It would seem that Vista should be the same as WinXP. Right click the Desktop and select Arrange Icons By and make sure Auto Arrange and/or Show In Groups isn't checked.

Well, there ain't an option for that in Vista it seems.

After you right clicked the Desktop did you look through the options listed in the window? I wonder what lays behind Sort By or View or maybe even Personalize?

as I said the show in groups isn't there but auto arrange is. I've always used auto arrange in XP and never had this trouble but I'll shut it off and try.

nope it didn't work, it still rearranges my icons. Why does it keep doin this. It's annoying. I always arrange my icons a certain way and this is annoying the crap outta me.

* well I cut off Align to grid and that seemed to fix it.
