martymas Posted March 20, 2007 Report Share Posted March 20, 2007 hi bar5yes i know the area well when i was a young man i worked ona scheme whe the power was made form the motion of the waves milford is on the went coast of the south islandand is a tourists dream the sound runs up a fiordfor many miles but the bird and habitat life is protectedand there is a heavy fine for disturbing itthe scheme i worked involved the motion of the waves to create electricity but it was made in such a way it didnt disturb the atmostphereit is also earth quake proneand is the center of a fault line for many years we were known around the world as the shaky islesif youve read the news in the last coupla dayswe had shocks that started from milford and traveled up the length of the two islandsand now we have a mountain eruptingand spewing lahar i havent seen this stuff other than the local newsbut it must be scary for the inhabitantsyes barb if you get to travel come and have a look ile hunt for some of the nature brochures and post them you have a happy eastermarty Quote Link to post Share on other sites

It still amazes me how small this world really is. Here I am seeing photos from NZ that many, many years ago I would not have the chance to see. The internet is a great thing.
