chimpy666 Posted February 13, 2007 Report Share Posted February 13, 2007 Ok i am not that clued on with routing and network protocol, the problem i am having is this i formatted my laptop which is and was running windows XP home with service pack 2 the network is setup using netgear RP614 which 3 computers connect to this and the remaining connection goes to a switch to which my laptop connects as well as 3 others, i have connected it all back up and it sees the connection at 100mbps but wont let me access any webpages i check the connection and data is being sent but not received, would it be a DNS problem I have set properties set to DHCP and Auto DNS when i rebooted it did a LAN check and went it smoothly.but i am still stuck.any help would be amazing. You can easily check if it is a DNS problem by using the ip address instead of the domain name. what happens if you put this address(it is for google) into the address bar. If you can get to google, that would mean it is a DNS problemhttp://64.233.187.99I would also run the command ipconfig /all from both your laptop and working computer to see if the information is the same. If you can get to google, that would mean it is a DNS problemhttp://64.233.187.99I would also run the command ipconfig /all from both your laptop and working computer to see if the information is the same.I ran ipconfig on both laptop and working comp, and checked the settings using that ip addy for google and it turns out that on my offending laptop its not been given an IP address when i used ipconfig it came up with 0.0.0.0 and the same for the DNS 0.0.0.0, i think this is the real problem, now is the question how do I tell it to give me and IP?? would static work? the router is set for DHCP tho.Cheers once again Olly Quote Link to post Share on other sites
mikex Posted February 15, 2007 Report Share Posted February 15, 2007 I am thinking a driver issue. It may not have loaded the driver...??I just had my brother in laws machine here, it stopped getting an IP addy. I tried different nic's, all the same. They would show connected but no IP addy.
