bearskin
no studies because there's no big profit for drug companies...that is SOP.
JDoors
If this does lead to a new understanding of how cancer cells survive, you can bet big-pharma will "discover" a way to profit from it.
jcl
That's the second cure for cancer I've heard about this year. We might beat the record last year when there were, IIRC, three announced in one week.

I'm neither rich (far from it) nor famous (in famous, maybe) and I got treatment for cancer so ... I'm not sure what you mean.in my country some drugs are susidisedby the govand these miracle cures arent one of themthere has to be a certain success rate before that particular drug comes under that reagimeso you either have to be able to afford it or dieand guess who are the ones who cant afford itthe problemis what drug qualifies for fundingin nz cancer is about 1.2 in a population of four and a half millionand the funding is appropiate to the percentagebut deseases like diabetes for instances is about fifety four percent but has the same funding as cancerdosent that look out of proportiondosent that look as tho the rich can affordto live and the ones who cant afford to buy the drugcant afford to live if your life has been save thank goodness thatand im glad for you that wouldnt happen in nz unless you can paymarty
JDoors
Well, I'm not going to debate the "fairness" of it, but it's been that way since civilization began. The ruling class and wealthy could afford better care and nutrition, the poor got by, or they didn't. Even socialist countries, where everyone is supposed to have equality, have certain classes of people who get better care and nutrition while the "peasants" toil away with less. baker7
The problem that I have is that there are so many people DYING of cancer and cancer related illnesses that it makes me wonder - I mean, there is a whole debate about stem cell research, and what that could mean to the medical community and people at large - However, G.W.B. does not want to fund this because of the fact that stem cells come from embryos.Cancer research needs to continue - there are way too many people dying because of it, and I have lost good friends and family members because of cancer - if we could get cancer under control, there could be alot of people that could benefit. We spend BILLIONS on iraq, and drugs and everything - and I think its time that this stuff be researched - would like to see cancer irrdicated like polio was Just my .02Brian
Bubba Bob
GW won't fund embryonic stem cell rsearch because adult stem cells can be obtained easily and with out controversy. They also have led to more "break-threws" than ESC. In fact, I dont believe Embryonic Stem Cells have led to ANYTHING of use (I may be wrong though)...
