A Somali arrives in Minneapolis as a new immigrant to the United

States. He stops the first person he sees walking down the street

and says, "Thank you Mr. American for letting me in this country,

giving me housing, food stamps, free medical care, and free education!"

The passerby says, "You are mistaken, I am Mexican."

The man goes on and encounters another passerby "Thank you for

having such a beautiful country here in America!"

The person says, "I not American, I Vietnamese."

The new arrival walks further, and the next person he sees he stops,

shakes his hand and says, "Thank you for the wonderful America!"

That person puts up his hand and says, "I am from Middle East, I am

not American!"

He finally sees a nice lady and asks, "Are you an American?"

She says, "No, I am from Russia!" Puzzled, he asks her,

"Where are all the Americans?"

The Russian lady checks her watch and says..."Probably at work."

If you really think about everyone is an immgrant to their "homeland". It just depends on how far you want to look back.

Depends on your point of view -- If you ONLY want to go back to a certain time then yes, but go back further and unless you're from the Moldavai Gorge in Africa (or wherever the first man was born/created) then we're all immigrants from someplace else.

We are a country of immigrants. Diversity(the great melting pot) is what makes America, America.

I don't blame the people for taking handouts, why not. I blame a system that rewards laziness.

I do think the government should help the working poor make ends meet. I personally pay just $100/ month for health insurance for my family. I am pretty certain Minnesota is subsidizing that. I am getting a substantial income tax credit, since I am considered working poor with kids. If the government did not help out, we would be living in poverty. With that said, a part of me feels guilty taking form the government. Maybe if the government did not help us, we would do more for ourselves and feel better about what we have accomplished.

my wife and I both work, just as of the moment we are not making good earnings. In another year we may not be getting any help.

the reason i asked was i saw a dicussion

on british television

the bbc called the doha dicussions

and it appears britain is now

leading the world in ethnic groups

some from the audience said

the americain population

has the biggest percent of non ethnic population in the world

as all the people

are from other countrys

apart from the native americans

that program was beamed out to the world

wasnt america colonised by the british

.my this makes interesting history

my country is made up of early british colonists

apart from a poloneasian race already established here

many thousand of years ago

now like america it is melting pot

of ethnic groups

and like america

there now is an undercurrent of dessent

among those who think they are the righful owners

of the country

and the new ones comming

in and the new ones always get the blame for things that go wrong

i my self blame other races if things go wrong

it must be human nature

it is happening all round the world

and politicians fuel it to meet their own ends

im a fan on human behavior

and we are all the same the thing on the top part of our body

that makes the difference.

You're right that it's probably human nature. Every new influx of immigrants (far as I know) had to put up with discrimination from previous residents (even the British and French, Native Americans weren't always friendly).

Native Americans originally came from Asia, so they immigrated here too.
