What do you guys think of SpinRite? The testimonials on the website are impressive, but they don't carry much weight. I would like to buy it for use in my business, if I thought it might be useful. Any real life experience, or knowledge of its effectiveness would be appreciated.

There are plenty of reviews. It will initially cost more but the upgrade prices are reasonable. SpinRite can be a cheap way of recovering lost data on a crapped out drive.

Used it a couple of times in the past, I can confirm it is a miracle worker. But it's also a good tool to use to prevent problems before it gets to the recovery stage.

(Note: I am not affiliated with Steve Gibson in any way, I just think it's a very underpromoted product that really does do what it says on the tin, and more.)

I'm sure on the web you can find someone who wasn't satisfied, there seems to be a negative site about every product ever produced by man or nature, but I've never heard anything negative about SpinRite. I've been purchasing (and using freeware) from GRC since the Windows 3.x days and have always been impressed with the quality, useability, small footprint and trouble-free software he writes.
