If I went and baught the upgrade version of vista and later needed to do something like fixmbr or reformat would you be able to do that without reinstalling XP and then upgrading again? The only difference between a full and upgrade disk is that with the upgrade you need to have a qualifying OS CD to do the install. You do not need to have the old OS installed when installing the newer OS. It will ask for the older OS CD during the install. The upgrade CD will perform necessary repairs the same as the full version CD. Quote Link to post Share on other sites

The full verison will allow you to install and uninstall, then reinstall to a different computer. Technically it is not permitted to use either the upgrade or OEM version on two differnt computers, even if you uninstall it off the first. The OEM and upgrade version do not even allow you to upgrade your motherboard.
