They already have the wireless network setup. What I want to know is if they have to use the M$ wireless usb adapter or can they use a USB adapter from Linksys.
-
I asked this on another forum and no one really answered it.
My cousin got a Xbox 360 and has a question about connecting to their home wireless network. Does he have to get the adapter from M$ or will a regular USB adapter (like Linksys) work?
-
Thanks for answering. It's a Linksys WMP54G Pci card
I read through Unbuntu forums and Mint.
I gave up on that old PC. I installed it on my Laptop (dual boot w/Vista) and everything just started to work. Even my Nvidia graphics card.
thanks

I'm having 2 problems with my new KVM Switch.
1) The KVM has VGA plugs and so do both video cards and the monitor. I've been using DVI from my main PC to the monitor. When I switched out the DVI for the VGA, my windows box looks bad (even with changing the resolution). Would one of those DVI( to VGA adapter thingys help?
2) After I hooked up everything and even after I disconnected everything the double left click quit working on my mouse. Any ideas?

What is the easiest and most painless way to connect to a WPA wireless network.
I have a Linksys router with a Linksys WMP54G adapter. I'm using LinuxMint 3.0

I was using Ubuntu but just recently switched to LinuxMint 3.0

Thanks for the help. I'm going to get it later today

I've been learning Linux on and off again over the past couple of months. After months of installing and uninstalling different Linux Distros on my Windows PC I decided to just build a Linux box out old PC parts. Now that I have build it, I want to be able to use both without the hassle of changing cables each time I want to switch. My choices are to use a second old monitor (which there is no room on my small desk) or get a KVM Switch. I don't know too much about which ones are good and the ones to stay away from.
This is what I've been told I need: 2 port, with USB and Audio connections. My keyboard and mouse are both USB (unsure on the audio for me, but). Through my work I can get a discount on a Belkin Flip http://www.belkin.com/flip/
Is this a good one or is there a better one?
Also, I'm trying to not spend a lot of money

I want to join this church dammit!
A grumpy old man walks into a local First Baptist Church and says to the secretary, "I wanna join this damn church."
The astonished woman replies, "I beg your pardon, sir. I must have misunderstood you. What did you say?"
"Listen up, dammit. I said I want to join this damn church!"
"I'm very sorry sir, but that kind of language is not tolerated in this church." The secretary leaves her desk and goes into the pastor's study to inform him of her situation. The pastor agrees that the secretary does not have to listen to that foul language. They both return to her office and the pastor asks, "Sir, what seems to be the problem here?"
"There IS no damn problem!," the man says. "Looky here, I just won $200 million bucks in the damn lottery and I want to join this damn church to get rid of some of this damn money."
"I see," said the pastor. "And is this bitch giving you a hard time?"

What are you going to be using it for?
-
Welcome, and glad to have you.
When you say Smart Switch (hub) do you mean the Router?
First, try unplugging the hub and the DSL modem together. Wait 30 sec. and then plug them both back in. This should reset the DSL connection with the router.
Also, were you having problems before or after you installed ACT? If it was after you unintalled ACT, you could have unknowingly uninstalled components needed for connecting. Try creating a new connection

I had Crucial tell me after a scan, I could use PC2100, 2700 or 3200 RAM on a friends old PC. So she went with the PC3200 because it was the cheapest price (it wouldn't work), only to find out from the the PC maker that the mobo could only use PC2100 or 2700.
I think Crucial is slipping.

So, has anyone tried this. I would like to know of any problems before I go and screw up my computer
-
Someone showed me this article yesterday and was wondering if anyone had tried it. It's to install Ubuntu with Windows in 3 easy steps

download the K-lite codecs pack (the Full version). then install it.
It will take you through a series of windows. Some will tell you that it needs to uninstall old codecs before it can install it's codecs. Just keep selecting 'yes' or 'ok'. When its finished, you can watch any DVD in WMP.
or
try downloading VLC Player. http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
-
Have you tried installing a codecs pack like K-Lite or Gordian Knot?
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Codec_Pack.htm
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Gordia..._Codec_Pack.htm
Then you can play the DVD in WMP.

This is what I've read so far. That with the M$ adapter, it's for the most part easy to set up and get going. With using a third party wireless adapter, there can be problems with drivers and such, to get connected. So, even though it's way overpriced, it's the easiest way to go.
Thanks for your help guys. I guess he has to wait for Xmas
