This is my son...
I ran the program that was provided in that link and everything seemed to run fine. A few hours later I was talking with my friend on MSN. She requested cam (we have video convos cause it is cheaper than the phone lol) and we started to talk. I opened up photoshop CS2 while telling her about this problem with my computer always shutting down. I told her that if it shut down I would be right back. BAM! I finished the sentence and my computer shuts down.
It has done it 10 or so times since I ran the program provided. It always seems to happen when I am doing intense stuff on my computer? I have so many things running all the time (I am a huge customization freak) and I fear that it may be the problem. Would a list of my running apps be useful :/?
Sorry for the long wait in replies, I get kinda busy photoshopping (especially when my computer shuts down in the middle of some art >___<) and forget to tell my mom whats happening to my computer .

Here is what the blue screen says:
A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
INVALID_PROCESS_ATTACH_ATTEMPT
If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:
Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufactuer for any windows updates you might need.
If the problem continues, disable or remove any new hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory option such as caching or shadowing. [*now it tells how to boot in safe mode*]
Technical information:

My sons computer keeps shutting down for no apparent reason. He will be in the middle of something, and all of a sudden it will reboot on it's own. It has been doing so for about a week. Temp on the display is around 35 C (95 F). Help !!!!
Here are the specs:
WinXP Home SP2
Pentium 4 3.06GHz
512MB Ram
-Edit-
I removed your image due to it having the registration key visible. It wouldn't be good if someone were to use that for themselves. -TheTerrorist-

Click the network icon in the system task bar, im not sure where the ip is stuck on windows me, but it might be under a tab called support. Look at the ip address, it should be 192.168.1.XXX, or similar, you can check this by going to one of the windows xp computers and checking.
the IP on the connected XP computer (the main one) begins with 72.38.XXX.XXX ??
The model of the Linksys router is BEFSR41 V.2

well I was wrong, now my son isn't connected either. Can someone give me step by step to set up my 3 computers with a linksys router (wired, not wireless) Thank you so much
-
I moved my computer and now the connection to my daughter's computer which is ME, is not working from my computer with XP. What did I do wrong and how do I fix it? We also have my son's computer connected, also XP and both mine and my son's work but my daughter's is not receiving internet connection. Thanks!

Alright, thank you. I've done what you suggested and I am running AVG again. Those files *were* still there so I've deleted them hopefully AVG will come up clean. Thank you so much for taking the time to help me today

I'm a little confused.....when I was having the screen problems with panda, it was showing 17 viruses, but when I was able to view the whole screen and scanned there were no viruses, completely clean. Then I did trend micro one too, also clean. So now what?
-
well I went in to get a screen shot and now it's a full box so I'm off to scan again go figure
-
I'm having a problem with pandascan. I can scan the computer and it says 17 viruses, but the box that pops up with the scan in it is cut off on the right side and I can't enlarge it???? so I can't see what to do or how to save the scan -- any ideas? I tried running it again and the popup box is still cut off the one side
-
booted in safe mode....ran AVG it found the same viruses, was unable to heal them.
Off to do pandascan
-
oops I have a bunch of stuff turned off with Starter.exe, should I turn them all on and run HJT again?

If found more than what it said before....
off to run HJT
-
I found this virus on my computer thru an AVG scan, I did print screen to get an image of exactly what it said. How can I remove this? I'm not familiar too much yet with XP so I'm not comfortable messing with the files just yet Thanks
-
well it was only one file, but perhaps they didn't all install Thanks again, I would be so lost without all of you here
-
Well I fixed it...not entirely sure how, but now both work. I uninstalled the original software and the XP driver from Xerox, I removed all "xerox folders" and anything "xerox" in my registry. Then I downloaded the XP driver from Xerox again and installed it and everything works. Perhaps when I installed it the first time it didn't completely install correctly? I dunno..but it all works now Thanks for taking the time to read

Yes I did. That is what I was shown before and what I did, when I couldnt' get my printer to work. It made my printer work for printing. But my scanning didn't work. So I just unintalled everything and reinstalled the original disk that came with it, along with the new driver from the xerox site. Now it scans great, but won't print! ugh. I need it to do both! When I used the XP driver and program from the xerox site, it prints, but when I go to scan it says Data reading error...now when I installed my old orginal software again (with the xerox site XP driver) it prints a test page fine, but smushes any other printing way up into the corner instead of printing all down the sheet.
-
I switched from Win98 to XP and was having problems with my printer, someone helped me here and my printer capabilities work great. I tried scanning today tho, and it won't recognize my printer as a scanner. I was able to open my program and and "select twain device" as my scanner, but it said there is no communication (yet there is communication for it to be a printer?????) can anyone help? I've already uninstalled and reinstalled...same thing each time. Thanks

-
well that didn't work either. But I truly thank you for all your help. Apparently I have service on this for free, so I have placed a call and someone can come here and change the darn cd burner! Thank you again, all of you for trying to help.

Check DMA Settings.
Setting DMA mode:
Win NT/2000/XP Users
Right click on [My Computer] and select [Properties] from the menu. Click [Device Manager] on the [Hardware] tab, then click to open the [iDE ATA/ATAPI (hard disk) controllers] section.
You will find: the Primary IDE Channel controller, Secondary IDE Channel controller.
Complete the following procedure:
Right click on the Primary IDE controller and select [Properties] from the menu.
Select the [Advanced Settings] tab. Check that the [Transfer Mode] for both devices is set to [DMA if available].
Repeat this for Secondary IDE controller.
Note: In some cases older CD-ROM drives will not support DMA mode. In that case please set both devices to PIO mode.

In My Computer right click on the burner and click Properties then uncheck Enable CD recording on this drive. This may cause a problem when using burning software other than Roxio/CD Creator that WinXP uses.

Thanks I did check my settings and the secondary was not on DMA so I changed that...everything else was as you had listed above. Now where you said "1) Make sure you have the latest version, reboot after installing." , the latest version of what?? I have tried several other burning software programs uninstalling each one as I tried a new one. I have checked the ASPI already, that was my first problem but that has been corrected. And I tried a lower write speed. I'm trying to burn thru windows media player now, but it just sits on the first song and says "inspecting". I've tried various burn lists, different songs etc and it still doesn't do anything.
Strange Outlook Express Problem
in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
Posted
I don't know if this is perhaps an ISP problem....I receive emails into outlook express, I read them but don't reply right away. Then I read my hotmail which also comes into outlook express. When I go back to my inbox for my regular email, they are all gone!???!! Can someone help? I've searched all thru my options and settings and don't see anything that might be making them disappear after they have been read. It doesn't happen to my unread ones, and they don't go into the delete folder, they just disappear. Thanks
