  1. The first linux distro I installed and actually got networked (aka the automatic way worked) was Ubuntu, for what it's worth. I also messed around a little with Mandrake (that was my first time), DSL, and gentoo (didn't get around to fiddling with the network so i never got an graphic interface on it, and thus really didn't do anything with it..

  2. Overpriced. An unlocked Geforce 6800 would perform better for $30-40 less.

Most ppl aren't really too comfortable unlocking pipes on their video card. And it would run pretty warm if you left the stock cooler on it, so if it were to burn out you'd be SOL if whoever you bought it from looked close enough to see what you did.

  3. Ok this is weird I tried running it again and suddenly it worked fine. I dont know what happened.... It may beĀ  a heat problem but I have a venus 12 heatsink and i thing my processor hits about 60 or so under load.

That is dangerously hot. 5C more or so and you could permantely damage/destroy your CPU. You should dust out your computer (especially the HSF), and get some thermal paste if you don't have any.

  4. Is the ram really that big of a deal? Since the value select is coming out of my old system its free. 1 gb of XMS is like $125 on newegg. Thanks for the headsup on the psu, ill change it now.

Considering everything read from the memory goes in and out of it; I'd say yes. Along with the PSU it's one of the most overlooked/unappreciated parts for a gaming computer. Get the XMS.

Note that the actual music tracks on a CD are usually WAV files that you can't see; the CDA files on a CD act as a table of contents for software that "point" to these hidden music tracks. If the Player is registered to open CDA files, but you still can't play the CD, the CD may not have been created using CD-burning software (that is, the CDA files, but not the music files, were copied to the CD).

What exactly happens when you try to play the file? Can you play them on any other computer?

  6. Out in the sticks, where I live, we're highly susceptible to brown-outs, surges, and power failures.

My UPS has saved my computer several times.

What I like best is the software it uses, in case of power failure, to Save your work, close all programs, and then power down the computer.

I have it set to a 5min. delay, which if I'm at the computer, is plenty of time for me to close everything and power down.

Otherwise, it takes care of everything.

If I abort shutdown I've got 25-35 min. of battery power.

Definitely worth every bit, of the $80 I spent for it.

    What UPS did you buy?
