  1. posting from my cell phone. i will in cordless unless there is some fabulous deal on a corded THANKS ALL!

    I have cordless & corded.

The battery doesn't last very long before it needs to be recharged.

If you have a chainsaw, get the chainsaw sharpening attachment & the correct size sharpening bit.

It will pay for itself the first time you use it.

Mine was about $9.00 at Lowes.

It sharpens at a 30 degree angle.

Lower the back end of the bit 5 degrees or a little more for best results.

I never could sharpen a saw with a file.

With the Dremel I can do pretty good.

    It grinds quick.

Don't overdo it or you will grind the teeth down too much.

  2. I love to live on the wildside, nothing really important on my comp, and its fun reformatting every once in a while :P

Never use Preview Pane in Outlook Express.

Viruses can automatically install from an iframe or other method.

I use Gmail & Yahoo Mail now after bad experiences with Outlook Express.

Be very careful using the news reader in Outlook Express.

    Newsgroups are full of viruses.

Fixing a virus problem isn't fun to me.

Rather tedious,if I may say so.

Just a NOTE to virus makers--

You know,...You have good computer skills.

    You are smart.

Why not do something good with your intelligence & skills?

Try writing a good simple to use image editing program with an intuitive user interface?

Write a program that allows editing PDF files for free without copyright infringement on Adobe?

Maybe you just want attention or are pissed off at the world.

If you want attention, being nice will get you positive attention.

If pissed off, doing something nice is lots better than doing something nasty.

You may not get anything for doing something nice, but you will feel better inside.

You can sleep better at night.

    Think about it.

    Please... Thank you.

  3. I remember when there were lots of jobs available.

Most times I could go to a place & talk to somebody & get hired or not without filling out an application telling them my life history.

    You could buy fireworks too.

Parents told you,"Be careful. You can get hurt with these.Don't blow your fingers off."

Then the government decided people were unable to make decisions for themselves.

It seems like a few morons ruin it for everybody.

    I remember city dumps.

I collected lots of copper & pop bottles to sell.

Finding coins in old couches & chairs was always nice.

Those coins were made of silver.

I had quite a coin collection as a kid.

The doctor made house calls for $5.

    Lots of things have changed.

    Not necessarily for the better...

The internet is the best thing to happen since printed books,I think.

  4. I'm working on it.

    Thanks for the input.

I'll get back here after a while to let you know if I get this to work or not.

I was wondering if the shutdown -r points to an .exe file in Windows?

    If so,maybe one could use

    start /wait sfc /scannow & whatever.exe

    or something like that?

I will now proceed to test the suggestions already posted.

It may be another day or so before I get back here.

    Thank you all. :)

    EDIT-

Maybe I could make 2 batch files.

Put the shutdown -r in one.

Run sfc /scannow & then call up the second (shutdown -r file) from the first.???

I'll try it after I test other options.

  5. I want to make a batch file to run sfc /scannow & then restart the computer.

    I use XP Home SP2.

I made one with sfc /scannow & shutdown -r but it restarts after sfc /scannow is just starting to run.

I need sfc /scannow to finish & then for the restart command to kick in.

The purpose is to let sfc /scannow to run & the computer to restart & run Error Checking & a boot time Avast scan.

I can set up the Avast & Error checking seperate from the .bat file.

They will run when the computer restarts.

    Any help will be appreciated.

    Thank you.

  6. I tested my instructions before I posted them.

    They work.

The ad does not appear with scripting disabled.

    Try it yourself.

    It works.

I tested it with IE, Firefox, Opera, Konqueror, and elinks. Didn't work. Did you take the behavior I noted at the bottom of my last post into account when you were testing? You have to block or delete the session cookie the site uses to see the ad more than once.

    Yep.You are correct.

    I was wrong.

The session cookie prevents it from being seen more than once.

I'll disable session cookies & see what happens...

    EDIT-

I blocked session cookies & the add still appeared.

    oh well .

    It has a close button.

  7. See this picture on IO Security settings to block scripts

It will block scripts like the one used to display the ad.

It shouldn't affect the videos unless they use scripts.

It will kill ALL scripts on webpages.

    Some scripts are useful...

That won't work in this case. The 'pop-up' is nothing but an absolute-positioned div. The page only uses JavaScript to hide it when you 'close' it: disable JS and you're stuck with it. I suspect it's designed to thwart pop-up blockers.

If anyone wants to fiddle with it be aware that the server seems to include the div in only the first page served in a session.

I tested my instructions before I posted them.

  8. oh goody...since you guys know a lot more than I about this coding stuff I need someone to tell me how to block a popup....I have adblocker but it doesn't work and I can't find anyway to block it....

    http://www.strategypage.com/default.asp

this site has a big popup in the middle that says about subscribing....I can block the popup but it also disables the videos also..I want to watch the videos.

    help please.

You may want to look at

  9. Shenandoah Valley,Va.--

It used to get below 0 F. a lot here in winter.

It used to snow & the snow would stay on the ground all winter mostly.

    Not any more.

It is in the upper 50's in the day now.

Calls for 60 Friday with rain Friday NIGHT.

    Summers are HOT.

Around a 100 lots of days.

Winter is like Autum used to be.

Spring & Fall seem like old summers lately.

Summer feels like the waiting room in Hell.

Note- I think Edgar Cayce is the guy that said the Earth would tilt.

Most ancient predictions say around 2012 to around 2020 or so things will totally fall apart.

Just about the time I'll draw my first Social Security check...

    Oh well. :(

  10. Yes,I think a political comment area should be added to the forum.

This is a Brave New World we live in with the advent of the Internet.

It is bigger than the availability of printed books or theses being nailed to church doors or newspapers or radio & TV.

For the first time in human history there is instant access to information & philosophical thought worldwide.

This forum is popular & will get bigger as time goes by.

Having a political comment area would be a good thing.

    Just my opinion.

  11. I'm trying to download some Real Media files but I think I'm doing something wrong.

Now in my temp folder I can see the RAM file but what I'm looking for is the RM file, right?

How do I get this RM file so I can convert it into an MP3?

    Thanks

A guy in England had a site with Real Audio on it & he told me a simple trick to copy .rm & .ra files from his site even though they were presented as .ram files.

He said to type in .rm or .ra in the address of the .ram file after deleting the .ram.

It worked from his site where he had the .rm & .ra files in the same directory as the .ram files.

Just put the altered address in the address text area & click the GO button.

This might or might not work with internet radio.

It does work with some sites though.

The Jet Audio program sounds like it will work better.
