  1. I've never had the pleasure of contacting Dell, but have you ever called Microsoft to reactivate Windows?

Read off a 30-some digit code to a computer

    Hold for 15-30 Minutes

Read the SAME code to an operator

Type in the code they read off to you -

I don't think that whole process has ever taken me more then 5 minutes, and I do it quite often. Maybe I'm just lucky

  2. Hello, I just downloaded ULTRAVNC. I saw my friend using it and i thought it was pretty cool. I installed it and everything. The main reason I want it is becuase i can access my home computer from school using a java enabled computer. I was using remote desktop before but I stopped because it always needed a computer with internet explorer and had a bunch of activeX controls. My real question is, has anyone used this before or anything similar? I can't seem to get it to work right. Whenever I go to the URL it says connection refused. I forwarded the ports. thanks

Your firewall at home is probably blocking it.

  3. Goman, I clicked your link and got a....photobucket home page thing--no pictures on my end, anyways...

At the kid's college, the computers are set up in a way that when they are turned off, everything except the operating system is erased--kind of a "new install" every morning. This supposably (according to Son) gets rid of any cooties downloaded during the day (he *cough* opens his email attachements and probably visits unscrupulous sites *cough* at school because of this feature). I have no idea how it works, but maybe the IT guys at the school know.

That software is called the Shared computer Management Toolkit and is available free from MSFT. It resets everything back to a base point whenever the computer is rebooted. We use it on many public computers and it does work quite well.

With 12 months of AOHELL has to be done with it. That adds about $250.00 or so more to it... :(:angry2:

    always a catch huh..:)

  5. From your description I would first check the vid card like Liz said. Then I would check the ram and heatsink/cpu and make sure they are all well seated and the cpu doesn't have any brown spots on it. (burned)

Touching a plugged in and ground p/s should discharge your static electricity.

I would also try restting the cmos.

  6. Hello everyone! I have a A8V Asus motherboard with 512mb pc3200 kingston ram, and just want to know when I buy and stick of the same ram do I install the second stick of ram in the 2nd dimm slot? What I'm tryin to say is that there is 4 dimms, one blue 2nd black, 3rd blue 4th black.

The first stick of ram it in the 1st blue dimm slot, so when I buy the second stick of the same ram, do I install it on the second blue dimm slot?

Thanks for your help!  Sorry If I confused anyone

If you want it to run in dual channel mode, put it in the blue slot, if you don't care, put it in the black slot (#2)

  7. Trydeleting the dial up account form your IE connections windows and then reboot and set it up again as a new account ( same user name/info etc)

Are both pc's trying to get online at the same time? Does your ISP have a restriction against that? Have you tried the Winsock XP fixit tool posted in one of the stickies?
