  1. I just finished a "chat" with dell, and they confirmed that it had something to do with the motherboard.... I am going to send it to the depo, where it *should* be fixed and sent back to me in 5-7 days. I'll post another reply once I get it back. Thanks all, brett
  2. I'll give it a try later on Marty and get back to you.... I am busy and have some work to do now. thanks for the advice, brett
  3. handplane, I have contacted dell, and they gave me a bunch of things to do, but nothing from them has worked yet. flashh4, i'll give that a try if dell doesn't work out. thanks everyone, brett
  4. No, no red Xs or yellow !s... Nothing that would tell me that something was wrong. brett
  5. To answer all of your questions.... 1. I do have volume control in my system tray 2. It was checked to start with marty, so i unchecked it, hit apply, then re-checked it again, and hit apply, and nothing happened. 3. I'm not sure if anything happened to my modem card lately.... I don't use it. I'm almost positive that it is either a hardware problem, or something wrong with a sound driver.... any other help is greatly appreciated. brett
  6. I own a dell inspiron 5150 (WinXP SP2), and I am unable to here ANY sound coming from it (except for the fans, etc.) I am all out of ideas as to what could have caused the problem. I tried opening up the dell and wiggling the wires around, but no luck.... should I try to reinstall some drivers?? I have had this problem for months now, and it's getting annoying. Any suggestions or coments would be GREATLY appreciated... brett
  7. I would download programs like adaware, spybot search and destroy, a squared, and spywareblaster, and save them to a CD, then run them on your work computer. After you run all of the scans, save HijackThis to the CD, and bring it to your work PC, and save it to it's own personal folder (like said in my above post ). Run HijackThi on your work PC (as mentioned in above post), then when the notepad document comes up, save it to the CD, bring it back home, and post a reply to this thread with the HijackThis log in it. This might be a little confusing, so don't hesitate to ask questions... Brett
  8. 1. Download HijackThis 1.99.1 from here 2. Save it to a permanent folder such as c:\HijackThis. Saving it to a temp folder will delete any backups the program makes, and saving it to your desktop, will clutter your desktop with all the backups it makes. 3. Run the program and select "Do a system scan only". 4. Once its completed, select "save log" in the bottom left. Save it to somewhere like your desktop for now. 5. A notepad window should open, with your newly created log in it. Copy all of it, then paste it into the forums... Also, this is my first post, so i would just like to introduce
