  1. The following three sites (in order) are where I learned HTML and then proceeded to update to XHTML:

    http://www.pagetutor.com/

    http://www.echoecho.com/

    http://www.w3schools.com/

You could probably skip the middle one as it doesn't offer much information the other two don't have. At the risk of sounding corny: practice makes perfect.

AMEND:!: pagetutor.com is really great because it makes HTML easy to understand. I went through that 5 years ago when I was in 4th grade. That should tell you something. W3schools is good too because it offers a built in practice page where you can edit the left pane and it will show in the right pane.

Another site that I haven't had a chance to see how good their tutorials are: http://www.freewebmasterhelp.com/tutorials/

  2. Oddly enough, it got me. I was sent something similar and that freaked the crap out of me. Since then I've always been able to see it coming and I knew it was gonna happen here, but it still got me.

  3. I think tg's got the definition for you. To block them, it should be in the preferences under security or privacy (some people say all cookies invade privacy, which they can but don't always). For Firefox, it's tools=>options=>privacy=>cookies=>change your cookie preferences. If you really care about cookies, I suggest having it ask every time and you can just make it not to ask again for certain sites. If you're using Firefox, I suggest Permit Cookies which allows you to change a sites cookie permissions with a simple hotkey.

  4. I think robshanahan explained it well. It's like a Windows emulator but isn't. It's supposed to allow you to run Windows designed software inside of Linux, but it runs so slowly it's not worth using.

  5. That right there's what I like to calls a good question as I also missed about half.

I think there was an online poll like Windows v. Mac or something and if Mac lost Alex was going to destroy a Mac, which apparently happened.

  6. I've only been here a few minutes & I like it more and more! I'm sure that eventually there will be a thread pinned to the top, with all the newbie introduction info. I.e. I wouldn't have clicked on My Assistant yet, and was wondering how to find my posts.

Beluga, I hope you're having a whale of a time building this place for all of us.

One can also find all the posts for any user by clicking their name at the top left above their avatar. This will take one to their user info page. Now near the top, under the user's name, is an option for Find all posts by this member.
